I love metal albums because one track might be all about believing in yourself and genuinely good life advice and the next track is about a wizard's skull exploding and ravens flying out

I'm more of an art browser than an art poster here on Bluesky, but #goblinweek was too good of a chance to pass up

Here are four original pieces for my board game, Bazooka Goblins, which gets its first round of playtests at Protospiel this weekend!

ARTISTS

Written on a white plaster wall in the workroom of the Oak Society in Telina-na.

What do they do,
the singers, tale-writers, dancers, painters, shapers, makers?
They go there with empty hands, into the gap between.
They come back with things in their hands.
They go silent and come back with words, with tunes.
They go into confusion and come back with patterns.
They go limping and weeping, ugly and frightened, and come back with the wings of the redwing hawk, the eyes of the mountain lion.
That is where they live, where they get their breath: there, in the gap between, the empty place.
Where do the mysterious artists live?
There, in the gap between.
Their hands are the hinge.
No one else can breathe there.
They are beyond praise.
The ordinary artists
use patience, passion, skill, work and returning to work, judgment, proportion, intellect, purpose,
indifference, obstinacy, delight in tools, delight, and with these as their way they approach the gap, the hub, approaching in circles, in gyres, like the buzzard, looking down, watching, like the coyote, watching.
They look to the center, they turn on the center, they describe the center, though they cannot live there.
They deserve praise.
There are people who call themselves artists who compete with each other for praise.
They think the center is a stuffed gut, and that shitting is working.
They are what the buzzard and the coyote ate for breakfast yesterday.

I am leisurely making my way through Ursula Le Guin’s β€œAlways Coming Home” and I came across a poem I just have to share.

The ending especially slaps.

Art v Artist 2025🎨

From big IPs to personal projects, it was a stellar year. Invested way more time in things I wanted to do as opposed to things I had to do. Years of grinding has started to pay off in some creative freedom, and when you get a taste you never want to go back

More mid-1600s swashbuckling killer-for-hire critters: a possum dismissed from the guard for drunkenness, despite being one of their finest blades, and an otter who treads the boards but turns to cutthroating because the theater doesn't pay well enough to cover his debts.

The Dragon Quest handbook entries continue. Here are two creatures that favor attack and defense over agility. As you might be able to tell from my work, rhinos are some of my favorite animals. I do also like anteaters. I like pretty much every animal, come to think of it.

A thing I've always wanted to do, but never could do: Remember exactly what song was playing when I started a sketch

Well this goblin's name is Runamuk, his bazooka still works when it's upside down, and I was listening to "Dream or Be Dead," by Dax Riggs

I don’t want to give anything away from this nearly 40 year old comic, so enjoy this face-off between Grimjack and a pack of demon possessed hounds. Then track yourself down a copy of Issues 23 & 25 to read the two-part story by John Ostrander and Tom Sutton - it’s a doozy.
