But if this happens, US landscapes may be almost unrecognizable in a decade, and never coming back. π

For centuries Americans of all races, genders, religions, and abilities have worked to create a more perfect union, and we should shout from the rooftops that WE are America. Not these idiot white supremacist authoritarians.

Same ground squirrel on the same post just staring out into space.
While birdwatching this morning, this guy just sat on a post nearby for about 15 minutes, just eating and contemplating. It was in a undervisited preserve and I suspect that he usually has his special lunch spot to himself.

23.08.2025 02:10 β π 2934 π 538 π¬ 56 π 40A comic called "birds I have seen according to autocorrect". The art shows six birds with a chat message under each one that displays the autocorrected name. The Great Potoo, a speckled bird that resembles a branch, is autocorrected to Great potion. Dunlin, a shorebird with a downturned bill, is Dunkin'. Garganey, a colorful duck, is Gargantuan. Brambling, a small brownish songbird, is Bra bling. Pomarine Jaeger, a fierce sharp-winged seabird, is Pomading Jaegermeister. Sora, a little rail with a lemon yellow bill, is Soda.
An oldie about trying to text your friends about birds. I can't remember if I ever shared this here.

On the other hand, the implication that sparrows, falcons, etc. are nocturnal subtracts a bit of the biology cred.

23.03.2025 01:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A great deal of trouble we face now is that those in power assume everyone working for the public good has to be part of a grift because *they literally cannot conceive of a public good*.
