Massive and energized crowd in Seattle says #HandsOff Democracy on a sunny Saturday. Who did an accurate crowd count? Easily 30,000 โ€œpissed but peacefulโ€ patriots.

My message to those that aim to sow distrust in science & healthcare: You picked the wrong group to dismiss and discount. We do not yield to misinformation and lies! #standupforscience2025 @sufsseattle.bsky.social @standupforscience.bsky.social

These are awesome. Would love to see similar pics when rally was at its peak to measure crowd size. Estimated size: 2,000-5,000. Anyone catch that or have official numbers?

So heartening to see a few thousand scientists, grad students, healthcare workers, support staff, and members of the public #standupforscience at the Seattle rally. The message - Science is for everyone - rang loud and clear. And so many great signsโ€ฆ

ScienceWriters2025 conference An update for the science-writing community about a change regarding this yearโ€™s conference, [ScienceWriters2025](https://sciencewriters2025.org/).

Today @sciencewriters.org announced the planned conference in Pittsburgh is without a home after University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon backed out of their commitment to host and withdrew financial support for #SciWri2025. No reason for this about face given. www.nasw.org/article/scie...

Oh boy. Not liking this trend.

Just went through this with my dad. His old hearing aids werenโ€™t cutting it and he thought he was just going to have to suffer in silence. But I string-armed him into getting custom made devices that have a tighter fit and can be โ€œturned upโ€ more than off the shelf models. Now, he loves them!

I think we (the world) must create market conditions and mechanisms that will make reaching climate finance targets not just achievable but economically advantageous. How we do that is another question. But what about prioritizing decarbonization using an abundance model?

Why is the Arctic Ocean getting louder? Never thought of the ocean soundscape as another way to measure climate change. What a great event, @nswa.bsky.social and @jrmorber.bsky.social. Thanks, @townhallseattle.bsky.social. Such fascinating fish factoids. Read this book!

Highlight of the week: @lynnepeeps.bsky.social book launch at Town Hall Seattle. P.S. I feel vindicated for having low light levels in my house at night and a lot of natural light during the day - keeping my circadian rhythms in sync. Now, go buy The Inner Clock. Timeโ€™s a tickinโ€™.

Whoop. NW Science writers, nonprofit, took author @zoeschlanger.bsky.social and moderator @brookejarvis.bsky.social out after a Town Hall event. Join www.nwscience.org to get to do this with other authors.
Gratitude to both of them for sharing insider info about publishing.
