Since becoming diabetic I’ve been through dozens of different airports in countries all around the world.

At everyone of those airports, security folk have been professional and understanding about the reality of pumps, CGMs, needles etc. Until that is I needed to depart Gatwick South 🤬 #td1

Normally it stops when you step into land, sometimes you can get landsick after a longtime at sea; seasickness can last days.

I realise this makes me sound like an old man shouting at the clouds but why would you do this? Why not repaint the whole thing?

Which is also why I find it vaguely ridiculous that there is such a focus on precision for some aspects of the ‘calculation’ when in truth there are (a) unaccounted for variables and (b) random noise.

I don’t think it helps that HbA1c is a simple number and cheap to collect vs the alternatives + I sometimes wonder how much some researchers understand the disease.

I wish diabetes researchers would wean themselves off using HbA1c.

I wish they monitored the number of decisions/ actions to maintain HbA1c / remain in range. #t1d

What an awful idea. What’s the worse thing someone could do with such data? How do you ensure someone in the future can’t do that thing?

A yard in the UK is an area with a hard surface, typically surrounded by buildings and often commercial in nature.

Of all the words, the US use of the word ‘yard’ causes me the greatest cultural dissonance.

I hear yard, I visualise this sort of thing…

BBC News now requires viewers to register / be signed in to watch streams.

Requiring this for entertainment is one thing, entirely another for the national broadcaster to require this for news.

Why should it be ok to track my views?

“…they operate on the curious principle of “defocused temporal perception.” In other words they have the capacity to see dimly into the immediate future, which enables the elevator to be on the right floor to pick you up even before you knew you wanted it…”

Wow: after 15 years, YouTube has taken down the original 'Rick Roll' video due to a "licensing issue," likely due to the acquisition of Astley's record lable.

The metadata remains, but if you click through it goes to 'video not found':

Fair… I remember trying to walk back to our hotel from a restaurant with my family while on holiday in Napa a few years back… they wouldn’t let us leave and made us order a taxi, no pavements!

Why did local authorities decide that street lights and signage should be positioned near the kerb instead of next to the buildings as they once were?

It’s irritating coz it obstructs the path for pedestrians, esp on narrow footpaths.

Some might say I'm being too harsh on Figma but I actually think I'm not being harsh *enough.*

For better or worse, Figma is the industry-default design tool. When they select their priorities, it communicates to designers *what they should consider important* both as a role model and as a tool.
