After every long run I learn something. Today I sipped Gatorade every mile and made sure to drink water after every GU and boom: The fueling was smooth and worked. Negative splits from Mile 14-20! And I was not at all tired. Onward.

Mile 16. The Minuteman Trail that we love so much for running, walking and biking year round was a railroad. OK, I seem to be fueling well, lets try negative splits!

Mile 15. Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge in Concord. What a treat for the soul. I couldnt help revel in this detour but perhaps thats why I made the detour. Unexpected turns are always rewarding if you seek them out.

Mile 12 The North Bridge, Battle of Concord, adjacent to Emerson’s homestead on the Concord River, where great ideas changed the world, blowing west to influence the young Abraham Lincoln. Not too far from here is where Emerson and Thoreau rest.

Every long run is a story to share or maybe every story begins with a long run. Today’s 20miler story was the beautiful detour @ mile 15 off the Reformatory Branch trail into Great Meadows, Concord. I also realized the sheer power of smart fueling & did negative splits for the 1st time. 1/n
