I don't know anything other than what I've read about him, but based on that alone, why am I not surprised in the slightest?

Oh yeah. When I came close to dying in April 2024, not only were they no help in acquiring the file from the crash (so we could see whether there was any dashcam footage), but they didn't charge the driver with anything and left it up to us to charge him (like we would know what to charge him with).

What a new Gallup poll shows about the depth of Americans' gloom A new Gallup poll reveals that Americans' optimism about their future is at a low. Only 59% of U.S. adults rate their future life satisfaction highly, which is the lowest measure since Gallup began as...

Gee, I can't imagine why Americans are gloomy about their future ... πŸ€”

My heart is breaking for the town of Tumbler Ridge, BC. 10 dead including the shooter - mostly kids, 25 injured last I saw. Apparently families still haven't been told if their kids are alive.

All-consuming ego is a powerful thing. I completely understand her having a hard time letting go, but she's had a very good career, she is very highly decorated, and she also has a history of very significant injuries.

Also, The thing those praising her seem to forget is that, even though she qualified, she took a spot away from somebody who would have been younger and healthier.

I could never get the police report to see if there was any dash cam footage, but I'm almost certain that the person who nearly killed me in April 2024 was using his phone when he turned directly across my path, sending me into his windshield and up over the roof of his car while riding my bike.

It doesn't criticize them so much as simply mention that they changed a few words, and regardless, the song has still always been about Bush and the morons who believe vacuous sloganeering and lies.

Thanks David. I'm glad my writing ability is still there, though particularly early on, typing was very slow and it probably always will be.

And, absolute final reply ... I have actually tracked the crash, the impacts and the recovery as well, if you're curious. This post opens to the first couple sections and the recovery updates are probably of no interest to you. Again, read or don't.

Thoughts on ICBC’s β€œEnhanced Care” Model Zero driver accountability for careless driving, lies, ghosting on damage claims, insulting permanent impairment payments, ridiculous cost-cutting measures, and ineptitude in tracking income replac…

I almost forgot, but I wrote a somewhat lengthy piece about my ICBC "enhanced care" experience. Read it or don't, but it might help to set your expectations, since there were many things I'd completely forgotten (forgetting is kind of a hobby with my brain injury).

I don't worry much about rural or suburban golf courses, particularly where there is no affordable housing crisis. In cities however, golf courses are entirely inappropriate, IMHO. If land is extremely valuable, we should build housing on it and not perpetuate exclusionary zoning by different name.

Thanks David. Tey do provide some income replacement payments beyond LTD and pay for therapies, so not all bad, but pain and suffering is poorly compensated. Hopefully your wife has as good an experience as possible.

09.02.2026 16:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

You said you have no idea if the ICBC approach works. I do, and the answer is an emphatic "no." My permanent impairment payments totaled $56,000. That's for a crushed carotid artery, stent, strokes, brain injury, losing my spleen, ruptured diaphragm, bowels in chest cavity, several broken ribs, etc.

09.02.2026 02:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't say that to compare our experiences in any way other than, the permanent disability lump sum payment I received from ICBC was, frankly, pretty insulting. I hope your wife's recovery is good.

There needs to be something more to make people pay attention when they're driving.

As I said, I generally agree with his points, but I think there has to be something to make people pay more attention to what they are doing when driving. The "permanent disability" payment I received from ICBC was, frankly, insulting.

I was with you until right near the end. I had very similar injuries to your wife, except my internal injuries were more severe. I'm not lawsuit-happy but there needs to be better compensation than the insulting lump sum "permanent disability" payment I received for nearly losing my life.

As someone who suffered far worse injuries than his wife, he had me until near the end ...

I'm not lawsuit-happy at all but there needs to be something more than the lump sum payments I got when you are nearly killed.

I have said it so many times I feel like a broken record, but housing policy is transportation policy is climate policy. All three are inextricably linked.

Solid evidence for good transit. Once you get out of the core and into the burbs, Vancouver transit options, frankly, stink.

I understand why they feel the need to further ration Healthcare, but the net effect of this will likely be more people either not bothering with care or going to the ER. After my episode nearly 2 years ago, my reality is that I need more interactions with the medical system. This doesn't help.

If you haven't needed to use a #Victoria area #UPCC since before October, you should know it is no longer first called, first served. Now you are put on a callback list to be triaged by a nurse. If they don't call you back, you have to call again daily at 8:00 a.m. until you can get an appointment.

All the obnoxious Nintendo, TurboTax, Kruger and Coke ads being shown on split screen during the Olympic Games opening ceremonies just ruin the broadcast. Can we just not be sold something for an hour or so? So tired of endless commercialization of everything.

Two drivers fined for speeding nearly triple the speed limit Metchosin Two drivers were issued hefty fines and had their vehicles impounded for seven days after being caught driving at excessive speeds in Metchosin on Tuesday night.

If anything drives us back closer to #Victoria sooner than later, it will be how people drive on the West Shore. They also love their stupid, pointless trucks over here.

LETTER: Quadra-McKenzie Plan can’t lose sight of how Saanich gets around - Victoria News Send your letter to newsroom@saanichnews.com

LOL, the letter writer unwittingly actually gets what good #cycling infrastructure is supposed to do. Imagine complaining that it is changing driver behavior (as intended) to make people on bikes safer?
