Hey Gary. The first outside show I went to was Rock Against Racism gig in Brockwell Park. An awesome day where we felt our unity was actually making a difference. And, among others, Elvis Costello and Stiff Little Fingers. Superb.

And as a post script, he obviously had superb taste in music. What a song.

Occasionally the calendar gives our hearts a little tug & says "Oi - remember this mate?". And we do remember. With sadness of course, but also with love & happiness. 37 was no age, but I bet, as sure as night follows day, he'd be proud of the man you've grown to be Ian. Love to you mate.

Bloody Chris de bloody Burgh on the telly with bloody Lady in bloody Red. Uurggh. I remember on holiday in Tenerife there was a woman singer in a bar opposite the hotel who was on most nights. She'd start by singing it as "My Man In Red". It was so bad it was funny. Also our cue to head out.

I remember they had tonic suits for £45. They were, shall we say, not the best. Around that time (circa 79/80) we used to get some great gear from the small charity shops. This was before they became trendy. If you found a good shop you'd be keep quiet about it.

I never realised such popularity was a job requirement. Probably a health and safety thing.

I'm with you on that. Some beautiful songs where, I think, he's truly doing what he loves.

...Please remember I'm coming at this as someone who owned thousands of pounds worth of records. There was a fella on the other place saying he would never play anything unless it was on vinyl. He was a DJ who did the odd wedding etc...

Oh Ian mate, the vinyl/CD thing. You've reminded me of a chat from "the other place". I love vinyl for all the reasons you say, & for reasons we've talked about on here - previous owners stories etc. But let's be honest here, sometimes - I repeat - SOMETIMES - it's just old fashioned snobbery....
