Ah - Dave Allen. Such a funny man. Dad and I used to watch him together. I love the reasons he gave for the bit of his finger being missing. A quick google search brings up a few of them, including:

.....everywhere it seems, including here. Calling people all sorts for having a different view. Self-righteous and smug is a very unattractive look.

I would describe myself as left of centre. Working class. A hopefully liberal outlook. I believe in democracy. I also fervently believe in other people's right to be the complete opposite of me. I don't bully them because of it. And that's what happens - bullying - from all sides......

It's a difficult one isn't it. It does seem preachy sometimes. I feel a bit out of place occasionally.

I agree 100%. I live in Ireland and one of the young lads I work with is studying politics. He is convinced, absolutely immovably utterly convinced Farage is going to be the next UK prime minister. I use the exact same "silent majority" argument to disagree.

..... whereas nowadays - although I don't doubt the intentions of many many people would be similar - I believe the numbers would be swelled by people with their phones joining in to get likes, making it more of an "event" & losing the deeper meaning. And bloody monetised "influencers" joining in.

I'll maybe get slated, but I honestly believe this. When we marched with ANL & RAR, we did so in our thousands because it was a collective moment. We'd had enough of the racism, the intolerance, the bullying. We stood shoulder to shoulder to say "enough"........
