Due to state budget cuts getting passed along (i.e., fewer TA slots to backstop 5-y funding guarantee), our Department is strictly limiting recruitment. Even folks w/ multiple grants are being told to wait til next year. Grad school top-up fellowships are suspended as well.

Also he's opposed to vaccines. I'm extremely biased but vaccines are easily the best thing humanity has invented. We defeated pestilence and the only real downside is "ouch." Being opposed to vaccines is like being against smiles.
