With imaging, ablation and myosin perturbations, they support a tissue-level actomyosin tension scaffold— another great companion to our extrusion findings.

Great to see our conclusions align with the beautiful work from @marija-matejcic.bsky.social in the Trepat lab 3D force mapping, Ca²⁺-triggered myosin-IIA meshwork dissolution, and neighbour lamellipodia generating traction. Great synergy, highlighting the role of tension in extrusion regulation.

12.09.2025 10:41 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Thanks for highlighting this! My background in fly morphogenesis shaped how I think about tissue forces, their interplay with signaling, and experimental design. An experience I’d wholeheartedly recommend — Drosophila remains a rich source of inspiration, continuing to reveal fundamental concepts.
12.09.2025 10:40 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is very complementary with the recent preprint of @xaviertrepat.bsky.social and Maria Matejcic using 2D organoids and providing 3D mechanical characterisation of the process
09.09.2025 20:53 — 👍 3 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0Important story dissecting the mechanism of gut cell extrusion using organoids. Local heterogeneity of tension promotes live extrusion and basal relaxation is sufficient to kick the cell out. Nice combination of optogenetics and live imaging to demonstrate this

Couldn’t have done it without the amazing support!
06.09.2025 09:28 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The gut constantly renews itself. Cells keep the tissue under tension, engaging in a tug-of-war. Weaker cells that can’t counter their neighbours’ pull extrude. This maintains mechanical homeostasis, ensuring stability and protecting the intestinal barrier.
06.09.2025 09:28 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Out in @science.org! We found that the intestine doesn’t just push out cells when crowded. Instead, cells are in a mechanical tug-of-war, and weaker ones are extruded. A new view of how our gut keeps its balance and stays healthy.

Brilliant analysis by @JeremyCliffe and also an important read before the Polish elections this weekend.
