The Pirate Lord Donald Trump - The American Prospect All evidence suggests the president is directing the military to assassinate random civilians off the coast of South America, and thereby violating norms and laws that stretch back to before the found...

I didn't have "we need to explain the Law of the Sea" on my 2025 bingo card, but @ryanlcooper.com does his duty in breaking down Trump's summary executions of random fishermen.

Will the AI Boom Lead to Water and Electricity Shortages? It's a steep price to pay so that Mark Zuckerberg can sell AI-enabled spy glasses.

The New York Times Argues “Moving to the Center Is the Way to Win.” But the Data Shows the Strategy Is Tapped Out. Democrats already run moderates in nearly every swing district. It's not enough. A data-driven response to the case for centrism as a core electoral strategy.

My response to the NYT’s “moderate to win” argument: The data shows the strategy is tapped out. Being seen as moderate by voters doesn’t boost votes, replacing every progressive with moderates would net 0 seats, and the graveyard of defeated D incumbents if full of moderates, not progressives.

🧑‍🌾 As we talk about another Trump farmer bailout (because of his trade war), worth remembering the government has been subsidizing farms for 100 years.

Yet they call @ZohranKMamdani a “communist” for wanting to help people with food & transportation? 🤔 usafacts.org/articles/fed...

California, this November 4th, the whole country is counting on you.

Prop 50 puts our elections back on a level playing field, preserves independent redistricting over the long term, and lets the people decide.

So return your ballot today. Vote yes on 50.

ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the 94 million pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the #Trump administration’s cuts to The Emergency Food Assistance Program.

In the last 70 years, federal jobs fell from 4.5% of all employment to below 2%.

Civil servants aren't what's driving government debt, and firing them won't address it.

In the spring, the Trump administration abruptly cut $500 million in deliveries from a program that sends U.S.-produced meat, dairy, eggs and produce to food banks and other organizations across the country - about a quarter of the funding the program received in 2024. The items that were delivered through The Emergency Food Assistance Program were some of the healthiest, most expensive items that organizations distribute.

It is an incredible twofer here: Trump is hurting farmers and increasing hunger. Literal lose-lose policy choice

With shutdown, Democrats take a perilous risk at a precarious party moment The shutdown is a gamble for a Democratic Party facing its lowest approval numbers since the Reagan era.

Um, where’s the big A-1 headline story that says “Republicans take a perilous risk” by doubling down on destroying Obamacare, relied on by millions? The GOP has the White House, Senate & House, but can’t keep government open.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year.

Republicans in Washington did this.

This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

Imagine under a Bernie Sanders admin, Congressional Rs and Ds agreed to give a 5% increase to DOD in exchange for big boosts to housing and nutrition.

And then Bernie decided to just illegally ignore it and actually cut defense 10%.

That’s what Trump is doing. How can you make a deal under that?

“I don’t think the Democrats want to shut down either,” Rep. “If you’re a Democrat — even just like a mainstream Democrat — your predisposition might be to help negotiate with Republicans on a funding mechanism,” said Rep. Steve Womack, a senior GOP appropriator. “Why would you do that if you know that whatever you negotiate is going to be subject to the knife pulled out by Russ Vought?”

Two senior Republican appropriators agree it doesn't make any sense for Democrats to agree to a government funding deal unless Trump actually adheres to the deal.

The Democratic alternative CR had language that would address this, but the White House came out strongly against.

We have 2 vaccines that prevent cancer, the HBV vaccine that prevents hepatitis B related liver cancer and the HPV vaccine that prevents cervical cancer and other HPV associated cancers.
On Thursday, RFK.JR's ACIP will attack one of these vaccines (HBV) and restrict access to it.
