Former Glasgow Cineworld site to be turned into Omniplex cinema The Cineworld on Glasgow's Renfrew Street shut after new owners Clydebankbridge Ltd bought the site.

So Omniplex bought the building Cineworld was renting to turf Cineworld out and take it over themselves. Absolutely mad corporate shenanigans www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It wasn't saved from closure, it closed because the current landlord – Omniplex Cinemas – kicked out Cineworld because they obviously always wanted to put their own cinema in there.

The 4DX effects in β€œOne Battle After Another” range from the obvious (the seat rocking around during car chases, a cool breeze blowing past during nighttime exteriors) and the understated (slight weaves with the camera moves that enhance the film’s more hypnotic moments) to the perverse and absurd but undeniably effective (the seat jiggling slowly when Lockjaw (Sean Penn) masturbates, a nudge on the viewer’s behind when that same character is being violated off screen by his nemesis/obsession, Perfidia Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor).

Oh, she says well, you’re not a poor man. You know, why don’t you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And I says to her, I says, oh shit, you’re right. So I bought like fifty thousand envelopes. Filled the house with β€˜em, toes to tits. It was horrible. We couldn’t take a step without tripping over a box of envelopes. We were going crazy trying to use them up, to make a little space for ourselves. Used them as toilet paper, coffee filters... it was a terrible time. Please don’t ask me about those goddamned awful envelopes ever again.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Little Women (2019) Where do I start with this? This is one of the kindest stories stories in fiction, and every actor does it justice. Laura Dern brings her calm, steely dignity to Marmee. Meryl Streep is hilarious as t...

Always remember something Kim Stanley Robinson said: what we call 'literary fiction' is itself a narrow genre better described as 'domestic realism'

I think the challenge is just an automated way to move money each day - there might be a way to have the money moved into one of their savings pots (if one is already open?). Don't do the challenge so not 100%

The discourse around β€œshots of the decade” keeps bringing to mind for me this moment in THE ZONE OF INTEREST that distills the sterile detachment and carefully compartmentalized horror of Glazer’s film to a solitary, soul-chilling frame. All that is unseen but still sensed, as if beginning to haunt.

Rewatching Band of Brothers and it really is an astonishingly good series despite being based on a very bad historian. Also interesting that they haven’t been able to make anything quite as good since with the same team.

I wasn't too high on it when I saw it either, but I've kind of not stopped thinking about it since.

Also has maybe the best gig scene in cinema. That Psychic Wound song had me hypnotised in the theatre

ZODIAC, rereleased on 4K, is still David Fincher’s masterpiece, as much a study in the all-consuming nature of obsession as an oppressive deluge of detail; all its forensic evidence accrues and overwhelms, casting the world in shadow without bringing truth to light. www.inverse.com/entertainmen...

Ridley spent the press tour bragging that he shot Gladiator II in only 51 days. You can tell. It does look lazy and rushed.

But I thought Napoleon looked great and that was just last year.

I must say this as clearly as possible: if you have, in the last ten years, thought "I just don't get tech" or that you're "getting old" or "you're not technical," you are the victim - so much of the tech industry is now oriented around making you do stuff rather than doing stuff for you.
