It’s a very easy way to get your name in headlines when it’s also a game you have virtually no chance of making any money off of.

Reading about it in PC Gamer was my first exposure to the franchise.

I love it because it’s very clear someone just wanted to make a little standalone ghost story using as few new assets as possible but it caused a quarter century of people trying to tie it into a purposefully unknowable canon

While fact checking myself I did learn that Sudden Impact did eventually show up on record and video for a small part in East Coast Family’s “1-4-All-4-1” where they had been rebranded with the extremely unfortunate name of Whytgiyze.

I spend so much time thinking about this video’s brief cameo by Sudden Impact, a boy band that shared a manager with Boyz II Men whose sole creative output was showing up fresh out of chess club with dress shirts and stupid Flintstones-ass ties to point at the camera, never to be heard of again.

The paints I used, which are unsurprisingly earthy greens, yellows, and browns with some pale blues and off white for mixing. I also used a green and sepia wash.

Painted my first miniature in a minute or so. One skeleton guy, extra goopy. I also had a fairly limited palette that I kept myself to, which was a lot of fun.

While we did not have a lot of money growing up, between a computer geek grandfather and my mother spending most of my childhood in some sort of university, I always had a shitty hand me down computer in my room. At that point it was a 486/33 that barely WC2 but NESticle could just barely hang.

At that point it was the colloquial name for 3.5 inch high capacity discs, but yes. I used them to move things between computers with Internet and my bedroom computer (which wisely did not have Internet) well after CD burners became available and even turned in papers I college with them in 2005.

All the roms were obviously downloaded in windows 95 but packages using PKZip on DOS, so everything read like MEGAMA~1.NES. Of note were JAPANE~1 through ~5, all of which were Famicom games I had never heard of before then and the reason why I think I like titles like Doughboy and Onyanko Town.

A friend at youth group gave me their copy of Warcraft II and a few floppies with NESticle and roms on them in 1997 and looking back, it’s hard to think of a single moment in my life that rewired my brain more than that.

All the colors smeared together because I was letting this sheet dry out anyway.

What it looks like on my hand next to the more deliberate colors I already test with. (It looks like watery baby shit)

Here you go. It’s funny that for all that, it just makes a vaguely sparkly baby shit brown.

All of the various colors I used arrayed on a wet palette. Most of them are tinted bronze because I did a lot of layering that way on the armor, and the pigment is separating from some of them.
