I like this little story because it illustrates how Govt accounting works. There is no bank account full of cash collected. Govt issues liabilities (cash, bonds, NZUs), which become our assets, then Govt tax those assets out of the economy (destroying our assets). [Ends]

wild to me to have no agenda to grow a tanking economy other than tax cuts to landlords and businesses, make it harder to get a benefit, make active choices that punish people struggling, and then create instant $1000 fines for shoplifting.

shit is vile.

just say you hate the poors and be honest.

A Canadian City Brings Fluoride Back to Its Drinking Water

So Canadian city, Calgary, in the Redneck state of Alberta, has just voted to bring back fluoridation in its water supply because of worsening child dental health. There are people here I wish would read this article. (It’s free to read)

Auckland Transport’s flawed approach to speed reversals under the Speed Rule: the full briefing - Bike Auckland This paper has been prepared for Auckland Council covering the critical risks, avoidable errors and safety implications relating to Auckland Transport’s interpretation of the Speed Rule.

Safer speeds also mean better neighbourhoods in which we live - less noise, less pollution and, of course, safer for our kids and cyclists. Putting limits back up in our residential streets is retrograde and stupid.

Not overly healthy, as I understand, but my grandmother’s lard fried chips are still the best I’ve ever eaten.

You have only three days left to make a submission on the Regulatory Standards Bill.

Let’s bury it together, just like we did the Treaty Principles bill.

Could this city be the model for how to tackle the housing crisis and climate change? Vienna has a way to make affordable housing and combat climate change all at the same time. Now U.S. cities want in, and they're building their own green housing.

Brilliant story on Vienna’s approach to housing (social housing on steroids with design competitions rewarding those with Green solutions), and how local govt is leading the way in the US even as Trump pulls back.

As a candidate for local govt in Maungawhau subdivision of Albert-Eden - one of the oldest areas of the city - this particularly resonates with me. The “But Council Inefficiency and Waste” mantra drowns out any reasoned debate that inevitably ends with this realisation
