There is something very ugly about the PM’s announcement. They are not saying it out loud but I hear ‘young people are the property of their parents’. There is a very Christian fundy thing going on, the whole respect your elders bullshit.

Not even that, just parents struggling with their own mental health and other problems that mean the young person getting out and making their own life, even if that means being supported when there is no jobs, is the healthiest thing all round.

Does anyone know what happens when the young person has health issues that mean they can’t work? It the supported living benefit exempt at least?

It’s so bloody awful. Young people are on the benefit because they can’t get a job. The benefit gives them a little bit of dignity and independence while they figure out how to navigate the next stage of their lives. Study or training isn’t for everyone, even if they can access and afford it.
