Do you know if they are causing any problems? I see articles calling them invasive, but every time I have looked for evidence the actual sources say they don't seem to cause ecological harm (so far?).

I shouldn't be old enough to say this, but back in my day... Classes had just a few assignments/tests, and they were done in class. Now with flipped classrooms and more/smaller things, it's just too much stuff to keep track of. Dealing with everything in Canvas was the worst part of TAing, I think.

Time for the vaguest abstract possible

Woke up sick. Accepted a job offer (Philly here we goooooo). And then my car didn't start. But then I saw the first Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA of the season.

But I suppose it's also true that journals might see the opportunity to speed review and start using it in place of actual human input, which is not a nice thought.

I figured the qed AI was intended for improving one's own work, perhaps leveling the playing field for people who don't have mentors to ask.

But now these comments have me concerned that people (cheaters? liars?) might use it to replace their own peer review. But that seems like a human problem.

I guess I've just thought of them as incredibly narcissistic. That they think what they do or want is good and correct just because it's in their minds. No critical thought. But the religious angle adds a dimension to it all.

Truly. I have gone to one Mass and it was a little familiar, but mainly really fucking weird. Seems to extend to all of it.

Fun (?) fact: I read a lot about Catholics in history books as a kid, but I didn't realize they actually still existed until almost middle school.

Ohh, that's what that quote was about! (It's ok, I can't say I like any Popes. There are worse ones and better ones, I suppose, but they are just people and I think they've all had a hand in covering up abuse.)

I guess I'm just wondering how the Pope disbands them, then. If they're a cult, then do they listen to the Pope? Or is it more about how that makes mainstream Catholics view Opus Dei? Does the main church fund them right now or something?

I could see them being behind anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, and similar movements. I'm just used to thinking of all that as a product of Evangelicals

I am googling it. I just actually don't get it. Is it like Evangelical Catholicism? The Internet says it's Catholics who are about holiness in their day to day life, but I thought that was the whole Christianity thing?? Or is it a cult?

What is Opus Dei, in terms that an atheist who grew up protestant can understand? (Might not be possible?)
