NIH-funded clinical trial will evaluate new dengue therapeutic
Dengue virus sickens as many as 400 million people each year, primarily in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.
Noteworthy because NIH news releases have resumed -- first one since Trump's inauguration. Announcing a @niaidnews.bsky.social Phase 2 infectious disease trial at Johns Hopkins & University of Vermont. So I guess that's optimistic...

Single dose of broadly neutralizing antibody protects macaques from H5N1 influenza
NIH science lays groundwork for future studies in people.
Another @NIH news release this morning -- a broadly neutralizing antibody for H5N1 bird flu in monkeys "lays groundwork for future studies in people."
Doesn't suggest plans to give infectious diseases "a break" for 8 years as per RFK Jr.

Another reminder:
Respiratory infections spread mainly through the air. That’s why they affect the lungs.
Masks, worn correctly and consistently, reduce the spread of respiratory infections.
Respirators work better than masks.
Washing hands isn’t wrong, but it won’t stop airborne transmission.

We need to be relentlessly hostile to any politician supporting anti-trans laws or even giving the tiniest hint that they will go along with them in order to win. We need to make it absolutely impossible for them to get away with this. So far, the cis community has failed miserably at that.

When I open up about my own experience with long Covid, I’m invariably met by others who have experienced similar long-term effects. Colleagues, friends, family members, fellow students - they are silently struggling with ongoing issues after Covid infections 😢

Katalin Karikó on the phone receiving news about winning the Nobel Prize
Katalin Karikó was the daughter of a butcher. She wanted to be a scientist, although she had never met one. She immigrated to the US in her 20s, but for decades never found a permanent position, receiving little support from the scientific establishment. Now she’s a Nobel winner!

Two years into my graduate studies, I’m realizing first-hand that academia is merely another societal structure that perpetuates the oppression of non-dominant groups. They pay lip service to EDI while propping up the ableist, sexist, racist, (etc.) status quo.

The intolerance for ppl wearing masks is definitely getting worse. I’m being harassed by a coworker, who refers to my mask as “that thing.” And we’re both nurses. It’s absurd.

Thank you! I’m still in the thesis proposal stage, but once I get my research started, I would like to do a qualitative analysis of the experiences of people who are living with #longcovid. We are being silenced by mainstream society, and this is my little act of resistance.
