While CM Parker's amendment to add a surcharge to capital gains income to help pay for ending homelessness, DC's child tax credit, & more didn't pass, we thank the CMs who worked to raise resources for the critical programs that support DC residents with the fewest resources.

This legislation will make the rich richer, & they're paying for it by slashing programs for the working-class. @itep.org's analysis reveals how much will go to the wealthy while many Americans struggle.

The tax brought in $2.46 billion for the state in 2023 alone, which can be spent on free school lunches for students and free community college for state residents.

Today, the House approved a budget bill that included devastating cuts to programs like SNAP and Medicare, programs that tens of thousands of people in DC rely on every day. These plans would create new cuts and barriers that would have sustained effects on the District.

Today is #TaxDay. In DC, an executive making $1.1 million a year pays on average a smaller share of their income in taxes than a middle-class family with two parents earning $60,000 each. Local lawmakers must raise revenue by taxing the extreme concentration of wealth in DC.

The IRS predicts a 10% drop in revenue due to wealthy households/businesses skipping tax payments. These people already go without paying their fair share—now they're trying to not pay at all. We need to get serious about taxing the rich & making sure those taxes are collected.
