And on a deeper note, both of these exchanges were with people who had NO IDEA what to make of him. He came, delivered the good news, and did it with grace and humor. Just a good lesson to keep in mind when dealing with antagonistic folks, whether they're inside of us of or external to us.

When I was 8, I won an entire backpack full of Goosebumps books, which must have exhausted all of the "wins" life had to give me. So now when Goodreads rejects me, I just ask my library to but that book and reserve it. A win is a win, even if you have to kind of lie to yourself, eh?

My point being: a lot of those in various American churches seem, on their face, out of tune with Jesus. He didn't engage in debate like that, y'know? He sums it up for us in Matt 22:37-40. Get her to follow that - truthfully follow that - and everything else just kind of falls into place.
