This study provides the first evidence of a potential genetic link between the MAPK/ERK signalling pathway and human longevity, which nicely supports previous research done in model organisms, including our paper published yesterday in Nature Aging.

In this paper we describe the functional characterisation of two rare mutations (in RAF1 and NF1) identified in long-lived families from the Leiden Longevity Study.

The paper was spearheaded by Helena Hinterding and Maarouf Baghdadi and further supported by Thies Gehrmann, Pasquale Putter, Mara Neuerburg, Nico Lakenberg, Erik van den Akker, Eline Slagboom and Linda Partridge.
