βour countryβ exists because of immigrants
01.12.2025 17:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0my favorite part about being a jazz musician is the way that whiplash will be basically a permanent topic of discussion, which sucks because apparently other jazz musicians don't know what movies are or how to watch them
29.11.2025 17:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0you arenβt βmakingβ βartβ when you plug nonsense into AI and it spits out an ugly little picture fyi. thatβs called βgoing on the computerβ
28.11.2025 16:15 β π 344 π 24 π¬ 6 π 1especially since no one there is hiring me anyway
28.11.2025 04:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i love posting unhinged things on linkedin
28.11.2025 04:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My cousin, back from her first semester at college, tentatively: βHey, have you heard of Aphex Twin?β
27.11.2025 20:34 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0is there a way to take that approach for an entire degree? is it "academic" enough? are the bulk of students even interested? the problem with colonization is many of its effects are subliminal. i can complain about the commodification of jazz, but there's so many young people who love it.
12.11.2025 18:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i feel so fortunate that my mentor in undergrad was passionate about us actually interacting with the time and place and people who made the music, seeing them like people with flaws and passions and interiority. we have no use for the deity approach, professional and in a clean suit all the time
12.11.2025 18:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0we really destroy so much when we tack a name on something. read any interview with any supposed "jazz" genius - almost ALL of them hate that word. they didn't think about that word before putting pencil to paper or going to a studio. it was given to them
12.11.2025 18:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0as a person who has devoted his adult life to studying that music, and who has finally had some opportunity to teach it privately, i really have to wonder if it's possible to decolonize jazz education on a broad scale. it's easy one-on-one... can it fit into classrooms?
12.11.2025 18:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i've been seeing more and more videos on instagram calling out jazz academia, or at the very least pointing out the ways that jazz was re-imagined to fit into music academia. it's great that young people are feeling passionate enough about it to speak out
12.11.2025 18:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0many of them stand to benefit from many of the things trump wants.
11.11.2025 07:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i teach drums and thereβs been a major spike in young people wanting to learn oasis songs - i did NOT remember how long basically ALL their songs are. so many hits approach or pass the five minute mark and none of them need to
10.11.2025 19:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0assault, batteryβ¦ not great stuff iβm afraid
06.11.2025 21:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0everyone always says "oh man, elvin jones changed my life" and whatever, which is kind of funny, because you'd never know it. what did it change? it's always motherfuckers playing the safest, most inside shit who say this
06.11.2025 06:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0sure but iβd still rather see a president bring war criminals to justice
05.11.2025 17:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0itβs also a window into how these people view the world. theyβd be that βloyalβ to white christian people of any stripe, therefore any (even suspected) muslim person will be that loyal to βtheir people.β
23.10.2025 16:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0itβs morbidly impressive how effective bushβs post-9/11 xenophobiamongering was. weβll be dealing with millennial islamophobia for decades to come
23.10.2025 16:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this drives me crazy. it wasnβt enough that everything you watch - regardless of whether you liked it or not - ends up a data point in your algorithm, you also have to worry about what your mouse hovers over.
who is actually *watching* videos like that? how is this at all helpful to users?
ultimately thereβs a lot of things people straight up would not do if it were an iota more difficult. think of all the DJs who sprung up once there were digital tools to make the work easier - it didnβt mean all DJs were now low effort, but there was a massive influx of people who were.
20.10.2025 18:19 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0i donβt think weβre doomed, it just takes effort to not rely on algorithms etc. you have to actively not stop at them, at the very least. we have access to more information than i could have imagined in my childhood, and itβs still useful! you just have to use it.
20.10.2025 18:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i wonder how much if it is their fault. if youβre used to an algorithm finding things for you, you might misunderstand what curiosity even feels like
20.10.2025 15:54 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0and - itβs one of their finest in years.
14.10.2025 20:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0we all know your #1 is flood
11.10.2025 00:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0you know, i hadnβt even considered that would be the angle. i just assumed she was feeling some freedom since the touring cycle was stalledβ¦ of course it wasnβt that.
03.10.2025 17:37 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0breaking news: artists with astronomical resources and budgets still choose to make the most boring music
03.10.2025 07:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0iβd actually be very excited for her scott walker arc
03.10.2025 07:04 β π 15 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i was definitely watching closely to see what would happen when live music returned. she was unfortunately just cosplaying as indie folk until she could go back to doing her real thing
03.10.2025 07:02 β π 32 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0ah jason from shiner
29.09.2025 17:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0woah. wonder who will be drumming.
