I think what work best in this poem is the restrained understatement. The knowing, helpless voice of the child.

I cancelled my NYT subscription this morning but I’m not going back to WaPo. Think I’ll stick with the Atlantic.

I cancelled my subscription.

Can you imagine having your life’s work be making yourself out to be one of history’s greatest villains?

We got you! You don’t have to do this alone.

We’re getting ours tonight and it’s already starting to hit me. Dandy, take good care of your human.

He is on point about the billionaires.

Whoever has paid for them thinks they can disrupt the vibe here. I’ve had several follow me and I don’t have near the list of followers that you do. Either their ruse will work or it won’t, but this one is blocked by you and me and that’s a win today.

It’s a bot. Just joined recently. Block it and move on.

The cruelest part of being a neurodivergent trying to survive in a capitalist society is never knowing who you can trust.

The problem is we have fraud, waste, and abuse that occurs with federal grants doled out, not just in research, and when it’s identified the government has in the past chosen to do nothing about it. We NEED research. We also need accountability. Why can’t we have both?

Which it will be.

I worked in corrections and juvenile justice for over 10 years and the kids and adults I got to know were creative and adaptive. They are survivors. And they will either survive within our society or outside of it. Sadly, we leave it to clueless and sometimes hateful people to decide.

True story: grew up in Alabama and the words “carpetbagger” and “scallawag” were discussed in my elementary school history class. FYI: a scallawag was a white southerner who supported reconstruction.
