The EU has adopted new sanctions targeting Russian television presenters and cultural figures who promote pro-Russian propaganda and spread disinformation on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Cyprus presidency has convened an extraordinary meeting of EU Ambassadors (Coreper) for Sunday afternoon to discuss Trump’s 10% tariff announcement.

Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law. They are essential for Europe and for the international community as a whole.

The U.S intends to apply new tarriffs of 10% against eight European countries from Feb. 26 until they agree to support the U.S. acquisition of Greenland. The new levies would apply to France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, and would rise to 25% in June.

Condemning unequivocally the statements made by the Trump administration regarding Greenland, the EP calls on the Commission and the European Council to define concrete and tangible support to Greenland and Denmark, upholding EU principles and law, international law and the NATO Charter.

This restraint may reflect the EU’s complex balancing act between upholding its principles and avoiding escalation with a critical NATO ally at a pivotal moment across multiple, overlapping issues. Time will tell whether that position is tenable (2/2).

EU sanctions against Russia The EU has adopted sanctions against Russia in response to the military aggression against Ukraine and to human rights violations, including for the death of Alexei Navalny.

The Council has renewed the EU economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2026.

These sanctions target Russia’s financial, trade, energy, transport, technology and defence sectors, as well as services provided to Russia or to Russian nationals.
