The first big "scoop" by Bari Weiss is a feelings-over-facts poorly sourced non-story that spells Mamdani's name incorrectly. Just incredible stuff.

He was caring for his 5-year-old son with brain cancer. Then he was detained by ICE. A court has temporarily blocked Johny Merida Aguilar's deportation to Bolivia.

Every day at noon, no matter how busy, Johny Merida Aguilar left his construction job and hurried to his 5-year-old son's school to feed him. His son has brain cancer and generally only accepts food from his father.

Merida Aguilar was arrested by ICE in September and faces deportation to Bolivia.

Oh it's exactly why. Something to balance the cosmic scales of justice.

Ok this guy must have received a terminal diagnosis of some kind. No way he's thinking about this, with this level of self-awareness, just out of the blue.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

In the criminal legal system, prosecutors often add an enhancement charge for crimes committed in front of children. But when the perpetrator is the state itself, what recourse is there for victims?

Something I didn't appreciate until my kids started school was just how enmeshed the tech industry is in public ed. Attendance, school lunch, communication, calendars, testing, teaching tools--everything has its own app. There's a lot of money to be made there.

Meanwhile, ed tech companies are salivating--eager to sell "solutions" to families whose schools will now struggle (even more than they already have) to meet their kids' learning needs.
