He GETS modern Who. The pacing is tight as hell- nice amount of twists and turns- zippy dialogue -manages to land a few emotional hits -Scary but not macabre… but then after all that what on earth is it trying to communicate? Feel insane if I think about it longer then 5 minutes.

Love that Dr Who fans will stand for this as well. "It's a nice treat to see it in colour isn't it?" Like, if they released Seven Samurai in Colour, edited down to 20min, with loud comedy music playing over it, that would be rightly, universally clowned on.

10 years, over a hundred episodes and way too many Doctor Whos. We broke canon a couple of times, brought Josh Snares in to play Covid-19 and got banned from at least one university. Who knows where our adventures will bring us next?

The Second Drs regeneration is the biggest example for me. It’s very clearly doing something. It’s horrible, traumatic- an important piece of TV. But now it’s “whoops, looks like they forgot to film the regeneration! We’ll have to fix that it post.” It’s treated the same as McCoy in a wig.

The Dr Who’s IN COLOUR are disappointing because to an extent they push the idea the classic Who is a mistake. They couldn’t make it in colour. They couldn’t make it #epic. But the stark horror of black & white has its own design. It already has an aesthetic, a power.
