Anyone know why the city of LA has fenced off its public restrooms? Looking for an actual reason and hoping that it’s not just casual cruelty, even though that’s entirely possible.

Sometimes it's cops. I've seen them drive over bollards in bike lanes to get around traffic.

I mistakenly said Wilshire/Vermont is the fifth busiest station. It’s actually the sixth.

Metro plans to install these types of tall gates across several B line stations. Stations that are so old that they are not up to modern ADA standards.

The elevator call button on the surface is broken. Good luck up there.

Finally, if people with wheels shouldn’t use the escalator, then why do all these able-bodied people with no accessories need to use the elevator? They get an exclusive station portal.

2. There’s already an elevator. Use that.

If you aren’t already familiar with Wilshire/Vermont, it’s easy to miss the elevator all tucked away from the platforms.

There are only two elevators, they crowd easily, and serve four floors. Too long a wait for the 5th busiest station in the network.

Most bicycles can be brought up escalators. Same goes for large carrying carts or luggage. It sucks to get to the exit and be surprised that you can’t leave.

I want to preemptively answer some potential responses:

1. That entrance is not elevator accessible, therefore it is not up to ADA standards and is not meant for bicycles.

It’s naïve to think people won’t carry their wheeled accessories up stairs or escalators if it’s possible.

98th is still closed, but aside from a few traffic signals that have yet to be turned on it looks ready.

Over in the Arts District, the city is gradually making process on extending the curbs and making the sidewalks ADA accessible! They have even closed the slip lane (permanently?) on 4th Street and Merrick.

They’ll never turn the alarm on because people will just trip it without caring every time. I’ve seen people do this with the glass emergency exit doors at Historic Broadway which are alarmed.

to find yourself going “oops. I didn’t use the exit with any wide doors” and having to go through the emergency exit.

One of my issues with this particular entrance, like many on the subways, is the difficulty fitting through anything that’s too wide like a stroller, suitcase, or even a bike. I know these entrances aren’t elevator accessible, but it’s not hard to carry those objects up an escalator and it’s easy…

So what’s to stop someone from, say, reaching over the emergency gate and opening it?

Or someone who opens the emergency gate from within and just lets people in?

Well, this is something. A P3010 has a Pomona North headsign.

I’ve been informed that there are A Line trains with “Pomona North” on the head signs in service. I have yet to see one. 😢

Months ago we were being surveyed about a weekly certified farmers market in Little Tokyo and they said it would be mid 2025 but I have heard no updates and I’m really hoping it happens
