You just don't get endings like a series I recently read where it turns out the plot in large part happened because a side character wanted to steal the boyfriend of the main character *and she wins in the end*

It's all empty fluff, be it the coffee shop AU or leveling story where the hero is never really challenged because they can't actually lose, so the reader feels in control and can hoot and holler all they want.

The basic issue is xianxia and litrpg, they're designed to let authors just pump out power and player fantasies day after day like a factory line instead of telling good stories. But that in some way is just responding to demand!

I do think there's a real demand for serial written fiction as seen by the explosion of fanfic and royal road slop over the past decades. The main question of how you create a logistical stream for providing it and paying authors without becoming a lowest denomination service
