Donald Trump is trying to cheat the system in Texas, but these Democratic legislators refuse to let it happen without a fight.Β
Their fight is our fight. Iβm proud to stand side-by-side with them as they protect their constituents.

believe it or not, fastest way to Allstate Arena for us is Ashland Bus to Clybourn -> UP-NW to Des Plaines -> Pulse Dempster to Lee/Touhy
a non-commuter Metra trip! they do happen! and judging by the rest of the people on this (fairly packed) train, they happen a lot!

If you're wondering why transit stinks in your neighborhood or city, there's a pretty good chance that the answer is "your state is more comfortable paying ten dollars to build new roads than two dollars to run buses on them"

Despite the famous similarities between the two cities, Chicago's Pace runs almost *5x* fewer per capita service hours than Toronto's suburbs. The RTA's ask for a 50% increase in funding would only bring it in line with other, slightly-less-underfunded US systems.
From JWA's Pace Revision Report:

gotcha. well then let's put that idea to rest and get some use out of the double track at least
29.07.2025 16:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
yeah, that's a good point
29.07.2025 16:42 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
did they build an extra wide platform there in case they ended up adding a third track or am I hallucinating that? either way building a piece of infrastructure which anti-future proofs against future projects would be very on brand for Metra and Chicago as a whole tbh
29.07.2025 16:41 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
the ROW has space for a third track at least as far north as Evanston afaik, which might be useful if you're trying to run the Zone 3 and 4 trains as expresses in the city, but yeah there's still a huge amount of tph capacity available in just the existing system

I simply should not have to choose between @andrefor40th.bsky.social and Kam Buckner. in a field like this, by voting for one, all I'm doing is weakening the other. there are a lot of great visions for Chicago on this list, we need a system that amplifies their voices instead of smothering them
28.07.2025 14:47 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
chicago's current system is practically designed to create a lot of vote splitting and advance unrepresentative candidates. NYC just showed how ranked choice voting can strengthen progressive coalitions against conservatives, if we want to avoid a Vallas type in '27 we need something similar here

like i'm being so real right now, aside from the garage access of Columbus north of Monroe and the museum access on Monroe and Jackson, what actual utility do any of the grant park roads serve. if we eliminated every road in red overnight, what actual use would be lost

standardize district/circuit sizes so they're proportional- 7 judges per district, 9 districts per circuit. if you anchor districts to 2.5M people per district, that's 357k people per judge, 22.5M people per circuit, and about 15 circuits. then you can have staggered appointments with term limits...
