Why Black Families Fall Through the Safety Net For most of the last 20 years, policymakers and researchers have stressed the importance of a two-parent home for children’s success. New research complicates conventional wisdom.

Why do Black kids in nuclear families struggle to succeed while white kids in these families flourish?

What do these inequalities tell us about the power & limits of the two-parent family?

This style of reporting is atrocious. Governor Cook has not been fired. The President has β€œpurported” to fire her. Governor Cook knows the president has no such power to do soβ€”see her statement for details. We need a better media who does not accept every half baked narrative from the White House

The surprising findings that led Christina J. Cross, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Harvard University, to write her critical new book, Inherited Inequality: Why Opportunity Gaps Persist Between ... TikTok video by Harvard University Press

I never planned on writing a book. Few demographers do. But 9yrs ago, I unearthed a puzzling finding that upended everything I thought I knew about race and family structure. And I knew I had to share it with the world.

D.C. has more residents than two U.S. states. They pay more per capita in federal taxes than any other state.

But they don’t get a serious seat at the table to decide how they’re governed.

D.C. statehood now.

Maybe it's time for the Fed -- which already runs a number of surveys through its regional banks -- to start running its own surveys to monitor unemployment and prices, the two components of its dual mandate.

This is a standard notice that is required to continue fielding the survey and an important opportunity to demonstrate the value and widespread use of these unique data. Use our template as a starting point, or draft your own comment to submit describing the importance of the ATUS and how you use the data in your work. We are also sharing a recording of a rapid response data briefing hosted by the Population Reference Bureau, Association of Public Data Users, and dataindex.us. The briefing covers why it is important for members of the research community to respond to this type of Federal Register notice and helpful considerations for writing a response. I think this article is correct that some of the lawyers feel shame but my suspicion about the balaclavas is that the agents wear them in order to look more intimidating.

Infographic titled β€œOne Court, Two Standards” compares how the Supreme Court used emergency powers to rule on lower-court injunctions against the Biden and Trump administrations. Two panels show:
β€’	Biden Administration: Lower courts blocked policies in 21 cases. All 21 cases are represented by red squares, indicating that 0% of injunctions/TROs were lifted by SCOTUS.
β€’	Trump Administration: Lower courts blocked policies in 86 cases. 66 green squares and 20 red squares show that 77% of injunctions/TROs were lifted by SCOTUS.

Key takeaway box below reads:
β€œUsing its β€˜shadow docket,’ the Supreme Court granted emergency relief to lift 77% of lower-court injunctions against the Trump administration. It lifted 0% of those against the Biden administration.”

The Supreme Court’s β€œshadow docket” has cast very different shadows depending on which party holds the White House.

When lower courts blocked Trump admin policies, SCOTUS intervened on an emergency basis to lift those orders in 77% of cases.

For the Biden administration, that number was 0%.
