California and Illinois have nearly 800,000 state employees combined. It's the state government who processes the payroll, they could divert federal withholdings to a state-run escrow fund by throwing a switch.

That's something like $200 million of federal tax revenue per MONTH to help Minnesota.

I would like to see Pritzker and Newsom declare a state tax receivership fund whereby citizens pay their federal tax liabilities into a state-run escrow account rather than directly to the IRS.

The state can hold these funds in trust for the federal government until Trump obeys the Impoundment Act.

it's 2026: kansas passes a law nullifying trans people's licenses. crickets.

so I don't use AI stuff. There are many arguments to be made against it, but a very fundamental objection for me is that it doesn't work. It has never worked, I'm not optimistic about that changing in the near future.

If you are serious about "never again" then remember: it's not about standing up to a line of tanks when the camps are already running. It's about standing up to social & professional pressure when the whole thing is just getting started, when it's not yet cool to do so. That's bravery that matters.

Standing up to the small stuff might put you at odds w/ social trends. It might cause friction between you & your peers. It might threaten your employment prospects. It will be *socially uncomfortable*.

That's why the train gets going: by the time it's socially acceptable to say No, it's too late.

Here's the problem, though. If you stand up to tanks in the streets, everyone will agree you're a Brave Hero. But if you stand up to the small things -- stopping the train before it really gets started -- you will be coded as *annoying*, as uptight, as moralistic, as uncool.
