Redeeming Time An infant son's death provokes a profound meditation on time, remembering, and trauma.

This beautiful essay on time and space and and the sacred and bodies and grief and trauma is just 🌟

And beautifully written, which does not surprise me having worked and ministered with the author and his family

I was reminded, we also don't know who was horrible abused by their mother or turned out and trafficked by their mother. We don't know how badly this maternal hagiography greeting falls because people have learned to keep it off their faces in order to survive the day.

Indeed. Who showed up for me during my divorce and then last year’s ankle fiasco? The church (duh the people).

one of the reasons to do cross-disciplinary stuff is because it's quite common for someone to be looking at a problem and then realize that another field has been looking at for for fifty years.

Fun fact #2: a chapter of *We Are All Chile* is about the civil war of 1891 - and how lament and grief shape remembrance, how a society elides memories of violence, how it deals with discontinuities in its overarching narrative. I’m looking forward to reading *Mi nombre es Emilia del Valle* πŸ“–

I got new sneakers this week and blew my mind to learn I’ve generally been wearing a half size too small because my ankles are slender vis-a-vis the length of my foot. Even the one that I broke is still slender, and I have to use a fancy lacing technique. I find this unaccountably hilarious 🀣

Has anyone ever said "My rights are a distraction?" It's always someone else's rights, right?

This was ages ago (at least 20 years, other side of the US), but it obviously stuck with me. And is the opposite of what I understand the Gospel to mean…

And today, Holy Saturday, I got to meditate on the prisoners of hell freed by Christ and it gives me so much hope, even as I wait for the resurrection. βš“οΈ

The Good Friday liturgy brought out some of the emotion I usually feel during the Triduum, which surprised me because usually Maundy Thursday is that point for me

I prayed the psalms at the altar of repose, and my parish seems to be finding better ways to accommodate this practice. Also, praying the psalms from 150-1 was SO WEIRD but also good

Despite my inclinations against it, I ended up feeling like I had to do it because it was so hard for me to accept the help I needed when I was injured in the past year. It’s been a discipline to allow myself to be helped, to be served. So I did the foot washing and damn it God was right. βš“οΈ

Maundy Thursday is my 2nd favorite day of the year (after Easter). The message of John 13:34-35 is central to my life. As a kid liturgical foot washing functioned like another way to show who was in or out (like only the vestry get feet washed, by clergy, etc).

After chatting with a friend about how our Lents felt… less?.. than previous years, I continue to be surprised by how God has shown up in the Triduum services βš“οΈ

Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally abducted by the Trump Admin and, by their own admission, wrongly deported to El Salvador. He shouldn’t have to spend another second away from his family.

I'm flying to El Salvador tomorrow morning to check on his condition and discuss his return.

I am tickled that it has been cataloged in the Latin American history section (F3081), rather than literature (my beloved PQs)
