look after the interface between you and the road, totally agree. Although I'm just about to send my old defender in for restoration which will cost a little more.

I even loved III even though it got a bad rap - the music was awesome.

yeah, I have preordered and love the series, I hear it's a little short though (which explains the price). I don't know why so little news given there has been a drought of big name releases recently.

It's not a good thing, the current generation of school leavers are way less IT literate than previously. Phone literate yes but not prepared for an office job. Imagine your first day at work thinking "what is this outlook and word voodoo? It's saved on a network drive you say..."

In my experience you can make things difficult, but you cannot child proof the internet. We need to internet proof the child.

I follow you because I really value your opinions, but in this field I know my stuff. I'm Head of IT at a FE college and spend a good deal of time attempting to safeguard teenagers.

So they all root their devices and side load apps. I agree that would probably protect young kids from accidental exposure but not 14+

Overall I agree with you, we should make it difficult for kids to see offensive content. But they will find a way around, be that VPNs or Tor. I'm not an expert on much but on this I know what I'm talking about!

01.08.2025 17:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

And how do you deal with VPNs where kids can appear to be in countries with different legislation?

When you buy a new laptop/phone should you be expected to scan your passport or be treated as a child? There would be uproar!

C) yep I said that, b) kids use PCs as well as phones, but they also can find out how to jack their phones a) yes but it wasn't!

Yes I know Meta and Alphabet probably do, but user tracking is a separate issue that also needs legislation

01.08.2025 17:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It can be, but a) you need to legislate the OS providers age verify every user , b) you will find a lot of rooted devices and obscure Linux builds becoming more common, and c) do you really want Google, Apple and Msoft knowing who is using each device?

Me too, back playing watchdogs legion which is actually more fun than I remember, Tsushima is next on the list before the sequel is out. All that effort to get a PS5 and then there is a dearth of games πŸ™„

Four alternatives to Spotify: swapping is easier than you think Artists and listeners are leaving the platform after its CEO invested in defence technology. Here are your options – along with how to keep your playlists

This article "may" help but you would need to convince your youngster that the evil is real. www.theguardian.com/music/2025/j...

Not that easily shares playlists and includes the other social elements with Spotify users which seems to be the issue. There is the evil Bezos prime you could suggest? Unfortunately most under 18s are on android so are Spotify users.

Ah I see, there are plenty of people who have the same opinion of Apple. App developers especially. You don't have to use Spotify but if you want to influence your kid that's a conversation, not a technical problem.

30.07.2025 18:03 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Anyone can leave Spotify, but your kids don't want to because their peer group is there. Can you cancel the family account and get them an individual account with a student discount?

30.07.2025 17:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yep, you are locked-in to the apple ecosystem, and now you expect your kids to be. No blame, it's how Apple work and how they became the behemoth they are. The service is good, once you are in breaking out of the ecosystem is hard, but if the service is good why would you?

30.07.2025 17:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So you could switch to android and windows? Apple is the ultimate and original lock-in ecosystem, but that's why they earn the big bucks! TBF they used to provide something others couldn't but now not so much.

I have to have a passport for my pony, I don't see why it would be so onerous for dogs, it lists all vaccinations as well as identifying the animal and registered owner.

Tbh, that's likely to be all the middle aged fellas (and some ladies) trying to keep their habits secret. The teens are already there to bypass parental controls.

28.07.2025 17:38 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Every kid over the age of 13 will be doing it unless their parents have set up full control over their devices and what can be installed. in my testing even the built-in free VPN in the opera browser will bypass everything unless you are using a serious firewall. DM me if you want to talk.

28.07.2025 16:47 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, face recognition, it's fine but pointless for its intended purpose. I work in IT in education and all the teens already have VPNs installed to get around parental control at home, the college WiFi firewall logs tell me that.

In my experience a large proportion of teenagers already use VPNs and have probably never seen the verification prompt
