At a certain point, I became someone who often unironically says "Hey Fam" to refer to my family and friends.

Huh.

So sometimes when you're buying a ticket for the Chicago trains at a station, the machine will play three ascending notes over and over in rhythm.

Those notes sound very very much like the first few measures of "Stand by me" and get the song stuck in my head.

I also usually end up dancing.

Watching my former art law professor give a talk at IPSC. She started her talk with the statement, "you all know who i am" and then just started. Absolute queen.

Is this what I get for having like, 10 boxes of books?

We have a lot more to do here, but I'm currently very happy with our new neighborhood and pleased with our decision to move out here! The Pacific Northwest seems like a great fit for us so far.

The community here is quite social. We accidentally happened upon a bar trivia game (came in 2nd!) and a music and arts festival last night just wandering around. We have found a number of really interesting trees for John to admire as well.

The food scene out here is quite fun. We have some kitchen stuff here now, but haven't hit the grocery store yet, so we've been basically visiting a new coffee shop and brewpub every day. I think it would take us a while to go through all those near us!

We've spotted a number of hummingbirds in our back yard and have a bird with a nest of babies in a house on our front porch. The weather is really lovely! It feels like mid-autumn in Northern Virginia to me, which is a relief after packing up our entire life in massively humid 80s-90s weather.

(I'm fine with this commute, as it'll be 2-3 days a week, I'll be primarily driving against traffic, and I marathon audiobooks constantly anyway).
We live in the neighborhood of Felida, which feels quite lovely and peaceful. Our house comes with a riot of beautiful flowers all around.

We now are moved into our rental house in Vancouver, Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. We now live about an hour-ish away from Willamette University School of Law, where I'll be starting as an assistant professor of law next week.

It occurred to me that I've posted no actual updates on our move to Vancouver, WA (Portland metro area!). I did a few story videos on my Instagram today to fix that

Kitties in first class!

Off on the first leg of our flight out to Portland! My husband is 6'2" so he insisted on flying first class so he still had leg space despite the presence of cat.

(There IS a cat in the second picture, he's just a void boy so it's hard to see him in a dark space, lol)

Rather distressing how often in a day I'm tempted to use this react gif since 2025 started.

I have many ideas.

Everyone is celebrating him for his (obviously wonderful) songs but I am also celebrating him for releasing all his works into the public domain and insisting he retained no copyrights over any of it.

wow a quintessential example of ID verification data weaponized, there have been other breaches but this feels exactly targeted at the women it was supposed to protect

The plus side of packing and moving all day for multiple days straight is I've managed to marathon through like 3 audiobooks, and should finish a 4th today! I don't think I've read this many books in so short of time since I was a bored 8-year-ole reading through my mom's children's book collection.
