I’m not much of an arborist, but I remember in Scouts I learned some conifers grow trunks that are part dead and part alive. I believe the lighter colored parts here are dead (that’s a sign of health and growth). Of course I could very well be wrong. It’s visually very interesting regardless!

Not sure what any books have to say about this. This is just my personal experience from being there and present at the time of the confusion of tongues. Also Peleg was banished to wander until he made it to Europe where he lived piously in services to God. So he made up for it in the end.
