I'll have to think on this. It's a brilliantly simple descriptor and I do love a unifying theory, but I don't want to crown this the unifying theory of American politics just yet.

The strongest force in American politics has always been a sort of "identitarian revanchism" -- where a group feels their once-revered place in society has been supplanted. It explains Jacksonianism, Populism, Progressivism, the backlash to Civil Rights and Trumpism. -OS

JRRT is an example of how politics breaks down across cultures, because that dude was absolutely a Nationalist but in an ANGLOSAXON HEPTARCHY idealized the freedoms represented before the Norman Yoke with small C conservative republicanism as acceptable if he can't have King Arthur.

Calling JRRT a conservative but not a reactionary is missing the forest for the trees. His final chapters are about Bournville chocolate factory explicitly! His solution to modernity was to only speak Old Mercian! He was, to put it mildly, insanely reactionary in the purest form.

Not that computer science isn't important, it is, but we need stuff not endlessly marginally improved codes. A lot of these students would be better off if someone told them college wasn't just a way to earn a paycheck but a way to learn how to be a person.

The only people saying there are no protests are:

-Trump admin
-corporate media
-people who are terminally online that don't go to protests

UMich cancels doctoral epidemiology program admissions for 2026 The University of Michigan School of Public Health will not admit a 2025-2026 admissions cycle cohort to its PhD in Epidemiologic Sciences program.

People thought I was overreacting when I said Trump’s list of β€œbanned” words meant epidemiology was itself defacto being banned.

But this week U Michigan announced they aren’t even accepting applications for the 2026 epi PhD admissions cycle.

the thing that Norman Dixon said in "Psychology of Military Incompetence" was that there are a class of men who are absolutely cruel and merciless to those beneath them but grovel and humiliate themselves to anyone above. Trump is a really excellent example

It’s time to wake up - we are literally on the verge of losing our democracy if Donald Trump cheats his way to those seats in Texas.

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

Wouldn't the existence of the blueberry B's discussion kinda prove the Turing test? It's a discussion no human could have and really does point out the fundamental difference between us and computers, we don't turn letters into numbers.

White House Did Have Secret Epstein Talks Despite public denials, Trump officials met for damage control talks, relocating from the VP’s home to the White House, according to reports.

Turns out the Trump administration really did huddle behind closed doors to talk about the Jeffrey Epstein files, despite JD Vance’s public denial.

i bet a lot of them are thinking it'll all blow over due to the backlash and all they have to do is not get in Trump's crosshairs for a couple of years

basically trump is "someone else's problem" but when everyone is saying that, he's everyone's problem...

A child is human, they have agency and have physical presence and at a certain point they are responsible for the actions they take on the world. AI does not, it is a mere imitation of human thought and has none of those properties. All AI does is detract from being human, a child it is not.

It is my firm belief that all preseason games for every pro sport should be played in smaller regional cities that don’t have major league teams. The Wolves should be playing in Minot, Des Moines, Duluth. Today’s Seahawks game should be in Spokane or Boise. Make these games big local events.
