This week, the IRS told a federal court that churches should be allowed to endorse political candidates during worship services w/o violating the law. Don’t misread the IRS filing on endorsements from the pulpit b/c it doesn’t change the law OR protect churches from enforcement.

In March, the North Texas Christians Against Christian Nationalism group gathered for their first-ever Advocacy Day at the Texas state Capitol in Austin. It was a powerful day of community building, learning from policy experts, and engaging directly with legislators and staff.

As people of faith & advocates for religious liberty, at BJC we recognize the personal significance of prayer AND the constitutional concerns raised when the government encourages religious exercise. We affirm the freedom of every individual to pray (or not to pray) according to their conscience.

In this moment they are modeling their views of masculinity (which is corrupt and toxic) around our current leader and his sycophants. Those in the Church who espouse this are merely captive to and mirroring the culture not the way of Jesus. I wrote a whole section in my dissertation about this (2).

Certain conceptions of manhood are culturally/historically intertwined with views on race, nationalism, and American exceptionalism. A "patriotic man" is conceived of as white, hyper-masculine while not showing empathy which is perceived as feminine. (1)

When Jesus said “the kingdom of God is at hand,” he meant that no one has to bow to this world’s want-to-be kings.

We don’t have to cooperate with evil.

We can treat one another like children of God & experience the beloved community here & now.
