This is true and it comes out kind of an understatement without stating the alternatives. Not backing Mamdani means tacitly endorsing one of two Trump allies -- Cuomo or Adams -- and that is far worse than the (already bad) choice of not backing the clear Democratic nominee.

1-2. Probably have a huge effect , as long as you don't eat until 2am. Lots of burning of fats without taking any on. 3. Has a different effect depending on insulin resistance.

This introduces an interesting twist on the chilling effect of firing people. Any economist fired by the Trump administration will go straight to a job paying many times as much with enhanced credibility to last a lifetime. Those who stay will be suspect forever after this regime. A reversal.

Not enough outrage that the ad features an incredibly ugly, ill-fitting outfit. I'm not a Sydney Sweeney fan, but it was quite a challenge to make clothes look bad on her, and American Eagle was up to that challenge!

This is why I was so angry at the UAW president. Justifying POTUS's tariffs by defending the rightness of some one kind of tariff is like saying "coffee has been shown to help heart health" to justify a twice-a-day cocaine habit.

I also believe this in the sense that I think that it made enough difference that an identical VP former senator from CA who did almost exactly the same things would likely have gotten better press treatment and come out ahead. At the same time, 1.5% margins have many causes, all worth analyzing.

In Ukraine: if you really hate war, send Ukraine aid so that war is not an instant key to more power for the RF

In the US: If you really hate gerrymandering, do your best to keep it from being a one way ticket to power in the USA

There is the actual Democratic Party, which for better or worse is a mostly ordinary liberal political party and then there is the β€œDemocratic Party,” a synecdoche for everything that annoys you online.

Since the 1970s, it really feels like new industries have just enough regulation to present a barrier to entry, and everything else is left up to the big incumbents to decide. It is....not encouraging.

I agree with this, and also "go out and actually listen to people and then reply to them talking like an actual goddam person" is still underrated advice for many people to follow. Not a magic bullet, but a powerful improvement in candidate smell!

When I first heard of bitcoin in 2009-2010, it sounded like a decentralized and wider version of M-PESA, and it seemed very promising (not my field, and I don't defend my read). Man, did the powerful work hard to milk anything good out of it.

My core thought about @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social : he's good at lots of easy things (listening, talking like a real person) that hardly anybody in politics knows, and not experienced in hard things (policy details, finances) that many people in politics knows. Work cooperation, that's perfect.

This question from genuine ignorance, not challenge : is there a reason to not just assume Trump and Lutnick are lying now, and that they will just cave and put a glorious leader coat of paint on a boiler-plate deal at or a bit worse than status quo ante?

My own theory; it is mental illness, but not his; he thinks he can get away with making up anything that sounds good and enough people will repeat it as true or arguable that it might as well be true politically -- and it looks like he's correct in that. That's what's crazy.
