Oh, absolutely. Ironically, I fell off reading Discworld in the mid-90s so I haven't actually read a lot of the later ones, but I would say that the only Pratchett that is optional if you're being completist are his SF books Strata and Dark Side of the Sun, which are fine but not essential.

When I started reading Discworld, there were only about 5 or 6 books published (I am very old), so reading COM and TLF was pretty much inevitable if you liked the other Discworld stuff. By chance I did actually start with Equal Rites anyway.

Could it be that the increasing complexity of everything has made problems seem so intractable that people feel the Gordian Knot solution is the only way to make any progress any more?
