Let me know if you need a repair part printed. I just have a MK3 working and some PLA but if it helps, ask. I have 3 printers, and can't run two because of software; proprietary slicers. UP3D runs Win only (and I don't) and the Markforged needs a cloud slicer I can't afford.

💯 But then how can you stay right on the edge? Just burn power slamming back and forth over the edge? You original idea works to move from one edge to another, but any over or undershoot, or external force, requires two edges to bounce between. Needs high res encoder. See my repo.

Love it! With a fast enough encoder, it should work. The trick is that low res = time passing before you know you are off position or where you are at. So that throws off your table / calc and causes oscillation. High res = know where you are fast. That's why the hybrid encoder is so critical.

But instead of /actually/ working on that, I'm distracting myself with a bunch of silly little side projects.

FYI, that stuff always messes up my gut. Take a broad spectrum probiotic as you end the series to help with that. The key is the number of strains. We take "Garden of Life Probiotics" which are 15 strains and it really helps. Before that, we had a couple rounds of C. Diff and you do NOT want that.

That sort of differential signaling is related to what my friend Hongyang did in the encoders for his Kickstarter. But he used an array of 7 hall effect sensors and computed the math.

Encoders in general are no joke. People seem to think they are easy because hardware exists, but the knowledge behind those is massive. The only thing simple is a pot; rotary or linear, and those do wear and have friction.

So linear pot? I'm confused by the inductor. An experiment?

I'm curious what output signal, resolution, range, etc... you need. I have some experience with encoders which are normally rotary, but there is no reason they can't be linear. The design I've worked with is VERY high precision and easy to make, but does require a uC to read.

Eh. Apples and Oranges. Starship is 4x the payload, fully reusable (New Glenn expends the 2nd stage), but less efficient to higher orbits. Yes, Starship is taking longer, but it's a MUCH bigger leap forward. Agree on the negative impact. Also Artimus is a stupid plan. Asteroids are the future.
