And as time goes by, it’s only going to get harder to get at the real truth.

This hints at a wider problem. Fact and fiction have become inextricably bound. Even the protagonists involved find it hard to separate truth from fiction. Listen to Paul sometimes. They have bought into their own myths. I don’t think it’s even conscious. Once you do that, though, you can’t go back!

Appetite for Destruction is hard to beat.

Anthology is great. I love it. Of course I do. But a thought occurred to me listening to it this week. In our desire for ‘new’ Beatles’ output, are we settling for the Beatles’ leftover rubbish? If there’s not much left in the can, are we simply left with substandard material we don’t need to hear?

Of course it was a monumental moment but then you dropped the needle on Momma Miss America or Ooh You or Instant Karma or Motown Chartbusters Vol 3 or Soft Machine 4 or 21st Century Schizoid Man and got on with your life not feeling the least bit bereft. I'm not being glib.
