This crew's circumstances add texture to what could be a fairly standard prime directive dilemma. Missteps with the often cringeworthy Sikarians hold it back from greatness.

"Emanations" is a bit of a slog at times, suffering from some sluggish pacing and rocky guest characterizations. However, there are interesting science-fiction ideas here, along with evocative notes to the tone of the episode. Not great, but it's an interesting outing.

Which do you prefer?
๐ด "Visionary"
๐ฃ "Ex-Post Facto"
"Visionary" applies a #TNG and #VGR like high-concept sci-fi premise to the #DS9 oeuvre to good effect. O'Brien's uber relatable, every-man qualities pair perfectly with this story, giving it a grounded and singular energy. It's an effective, character-focused thriller.

30.11.2025 02:51 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0"Ex-Post Facto" has a strong sci-fi premise, and unlike #TNG's similar "A Matter of Perspective", this comes early enough to make the questions about Paris' conduct troublingly credible. The film-noir approach is always welcome for me, but this doesn't stick that landing.
Score: 1.5/5

Which do you prefer?
๐ด "Prophet Motive"
๐ฃ "Eye of the Needle"
"Prophet Motive" is breezy fare, establishing the tone of what most Ferengi comedies will follow from here on out. There are some clever jokes, and the Ferengi cast is uniformly on point as they always are. However, this is light on fresh ideas and generally a mixed bag.
Score: 2.0/5

It really is great! Early classic!
29.11.2025 23:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0"Eye of the Needle" is #VGR's first truly great standalone episode. Totally rooted in the series' premise and fully capitalizing on those opportunities. The emotional roller coaster offers a perfectly attuned entry point for the audience to feel right alongside the crew.

Which do you prefer?
๐ด "Destiny"
๐ฃ "The Cloud"
"Destiny" is a great outing for Sisko, forcing him to face his discomfort with being known as 'The Emissary'. Solid science-fiction, along with #DS9's trademark focus on character, relationships and the show's central themes. Underrated and eminently watchable #StarTrek.
Score: 4.0/5
#TrekRewatch5
"The Cloud" succeeds most when the focus is on Janeway's realization that a deeper connection with her crew is necessary, given Voyager's unique circumstances. The sci-fi plot is standard issue fare, though it does spread a few quality character beats around to the cast.

Which do you prefer?
๐ด "Heart of Stone"
๐ฃ "Phage"
"Heart of Stone" is an episode stuffed with essential character development, which alters the course of #DS9 moving forward. While I think the Nog storyline makes zero false moves, I find that the Odo side of the episode doesn't manage to hit the same emotional zenith.
Score: 3.0/5
#TrekRewatch5
"Phage" is the first episode to take full advantage of the blank slate offered by the series' foray into the Delta Quadrant. The Vidiians are terrifying, but in true #StarTrek fashion, much more than just a one dimensional villain. Phillips and Picardo both shine here.
Score: 3.5/5

Which do you prefer?
๐ด "Life Support"
๐ฃ "Time and Again"
"Life Support" has long been an example of under-valued Star Trek from my perspective. A satisfying mix of solid character drama backed by just enough sci-fi elements, and the kind of big picture storytelling #DS9 is uniquely equipped to tackle. I love the performances.
Score: 3.5/5

I think youโre right on with the intent for sure. I wish it was as satisfying as the execution in โParallaxโ!
29.11.2025 01:10 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"Time and Again" embraces time paradox shenanigans to mixed results. The sci-fi conceit is clever, and it's used to generate some disturbing moments. However, the excellent character work of the previous two episodes isn't as present here. Clunky execution holds it back.
Score: 2.0/5
#TrekRewatch5
"Parallax" is a very solid episode, taking the handoff from "Caretaker", and capitalizing on the pilot's lingering character and big picture questions. Janeway, Torres and Chakotay are well drawn and expertly used here, fueling the drama with strong character interplay.
Score: 3.0/5
