Bizarrely the US with separation of church and state has its politics entirely dictated by religion. Whereas UK which is a theocracy actually has minimal real control over its legislatures by religion, despite bishops sitting in the HoL.

Synod urges Government to scrap assisted-dying Bill and fund βdesperately needed palliative careβ
βA Church whose hands are consecrated to bring life cannot support the prescription of life-ending drugsβ Bishop of London warns
βThis is a line our nation must not cross,β was the message from the General Synod, after it voted, by a significant majority, to condemn a Bill to legalise assisted dying currently working its way through Parliament.

10 YEAR PLAN - Neighbourhoods

The Plan is a mixed bag of good stuff and areas that need tightening for delivery.

Behaviour change is often overrated as the ultimate solution to improve health because without social, economic & structural environments that facilitate rather than obstruct healthy choices, behaviour change remains a privilege reserved for those who have the resources to remove the obstructions.

The system uses primary care as a cheap offload for what the state doesnβt want to pay for. Itβs too easy. GPs across the country arenβt perfect, be we are generally very good at absorbing patients care needs for cheap. But itβs our staff getting screamed out when the wider service doesnβt work

I think we are closer to this than ever before. Letβs face it, patients value their GP, but governments do not. They see medicine as something practiced in hospitals. Our secondary care colleagues are sadly part of this, everything seeming to have to go to a specialists (I found AF pls ref to cardio

The strength of GP is continuity of care and "being the expert in knowing your patients", compared to being an increasingly siloed specialist.
Losing that continuity has led to ACPs doing more of the role of GP.
Continuity of care is overwhelmingly popular with patients and GPs.

And continuity is also overwhelmingly associated with far better outcomes for patients.
I remain to be convinced by any claims that AI will revolutionise medicine. It smacks of the Emperor's new clothes.

Exactly. Without the GPs in high numbers it will just spread us further than we are. Then lengths they will go to in order to not give GP surgeries funding is incredible

Eg one or two neurologists in Lincs. Do we want them driving hours between Skegness, Boston, and Lincoln, (not seeing patients) or using that time to see more patients. Itβs a tough balance.
