09.02.2026 13:27 β π 332 π 131 π¬ 13 π 19A horizontal bar chart from the Institute for Government showing the tenure of Cabinet Secretaries. The tenure of Sir Burke Trend (1963-1972) is highlighted in a poor attempt at a pun. The full list can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabinet_Secretary_(United_Kingdom)#List_of_cabinet_secretaries
Time for my increasingly frequent, 'there's a clear Trend on this chart' joke
10.02.2026 11:16 β π 79 π 20 π¬ 4 π 4This is an accurate and clear appraisal, to my mind. Shame we're not to be able to have a balanced take anymore. "He's bad, could be worse, and there are no easy answers," shouldn't be controversial, but I've seen it shouted down by both sides.
10.02.2026 11:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm very sorry that you're getting tired, Sam. I'm getting tired of the constant barrage of bad press about Labour and the media baying for blood, while far worse people get a free ride and will eventually get to do a worse job. But I don't suppose you care about that so much.

No, Sophie Rigsbyski, this isn't the scandal of the century. Β£millions in dodgy covid PPE contracts, 100s of 1000s of unecessary deaths, Arcuri, Lebedev, Β£2000 rolls of wallpaper are the biggest scandals. Farage's close friendship with a rapist, pedophile, Epstein, Putin and Bannon is the biggest.

05.02.2026 23:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thought this at the time he first complained about it. Fuckin meaningless. Why are they even reporting it when it changes faster than the weather?

05.02.2026 22:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Medgar Evers is in the news again. But what's also shocking is that this song is as relevant today as it was 62 years ago. It's red caps more than hoods these days, but the story is the same.

Golden stats. Obvious to anyone living and working among immigrants, but it still needs saying.
05.02.2026 21:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's ace already, isn't it? 3 times faster sounds great! But 3 times faster than hardly anything at all feels somewhat less impressive. I wish there were some way that statistical formats could be standardised for media output.
05.02.2026 21:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Isn't the whole point to explain how the verdict could come about, with specific reference to the letter of the law, despite some people thinking it should be otherwise? SB makes no judgement, and only states the legal facts. You might not like the conclusion, but that doesn't make it bollocks.

Though I would have been 13 at the end of '83, and time moves slowly at that age. But then we moved in May, so it would have have to moved pretty slowly π€
40 people in a Target store sit in, with ICE Out now sign, righteously claiming their space and leadership, demanding Target corporation speak out against ICE.
Bright pink sign, handwritten letters- Target Stand with Minnesota
Target called the police on peaceful Minnesotans today, telling us we were on private property.
But when ICE comes to brutalize and abduct people in their stores, Target says itβs public space and canβt stop it.
Target needs to decide - do they stand with Minnesotans, or masked abductors? #ICEOut
Target's owners are truly going to run the company completely out of business not even for the usual "someone profits when it fails" reason, but because they're THAT committed to white supremacy.
31.01.2026 22:19 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I still find it hard to understand how that works, or at least to understand why it would come to that. Maybe funding is a bit more structured over here? But I guess it's no less squeezed, so maybe it's only a matter of time.
31.01.2026 23:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Jeeeeezus. Depressing if true. Over here, professors mostly spend all their hours writing applications to funding boards (at least the ones I think I trust!). Which is also depressing. But considerably less so than petitioning moneyed paedophiles.
31.01.2026 23:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On a practical note, how did Epstein manage to have email exchanges with so many people? Musk, Trump, (former) Prince Andrew I might expect, but physicists too?
31.01.2026 22:52 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0A very cloudy glass of Verdant Putty, next to the can it came from. The beer has a look somewhere between cloudy apple juice and orange juice, and the can is green, featuring a still from a specially commissioned 3d animation.
Finally got around to trying the Putty. It's really quite something, and the name is appropriate. Packs a punch, too. #bskybeer
31.01.2026 19:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"What's the point of winning?" This is so true. The purpose of office is to serve the people. If your motivation is elsewhere, as it seems to be for most politicians, then you're not fit to serve.
Sadly, those with the humility to stand for the right reasons are rarely awarded the opportunity.
Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But heβs continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

27.01.2026 20:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A flower on an unidentified plant. The leaves form a rosette, like a bromeliad, but are thin, with (to my mind) the look of a plant adapted to arid conditions. The flowers are on a long stalk, dangling at the edge of the foliage, with flamingo-pink sepals giving rise to a stalk containing about 6 inflorescences, each of which is green-pink-green with bright yellow anthers, although I've only ever seen a single inflorescence open on any given day.
idk wut this is lolz
27.01.2026 20:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.
Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.
