I'm a Fifer. I love the following: FILMS! (Scottish, Irish, documentary, short films, horror, cult movies) MUSIC! (Everything from traditional folk to electronic weirdness) THEATRE! (Especially Scottish and Irish) BOOKS! HAGGIS! Letterboxd: GhostOfTheRegal
And yes that's AETHER by TheatreGoose (one word), screw you, auto-incorrect
13.08.2025 09:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Already looking at which of my favourite #EdFringe shows I will go and see for a second time at the end of the festival (as is tradition) and SHIT the entire run of Theatre goose's AETHER has sold out. I mean it's great for them, but SHIT
13.08.2025 09:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, because since his last two films have been original non-IP horrors that have been both critically and commercially successful there is absolutely no way they should be letting him try it again.
12.08.2025 23:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0WARNINGS: Historical instruments will not be amplified
I've had a lot of different content warnings for shows at the Fringe but I think this is my favourite so far.
12.08.2025 22:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Major publications ditching their critics think that influencers or algorithms are the future, but theyβre wrong. If anything, as entertainment becomes more overwhelming, you need experts as a guide. You need people who arenβt part of relentless hype machines designed to sell you something.
12.08.2025 18:32 β π 87 π 23 π¬ 1 π 0Oh hai. Maybe do something about the unsustainable demands of AI and bot farms before you ask the public to delete old family photos.
12.08.2025 17:41 β π 43 π 11 π¬ 2 π 0Went to see Weapons. Would like to suggest a double bill.

Picking shows by folks whose previous work I've loved proving fruitful again at #EdFringe. Loved their Philomena McGuinness and Victorine shows (the former is back this year too), so just went to see Ireland's @moonrabtheatre.bsky.social with Shirley: A Ghost Story and it's three for three. Magic.
11.08.2025 15:11 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Normal Fringe service has resumed - it's taken a bit longer than usual but I have finally seen my first instance of someone's poster having had a knob drawn on their forehead.
11.08.2025 12:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Love finding out one of my shows is cancelled and finally receiving an email notification of said cancellation five minutes after it was supposed to have started.
11.08.2025 12:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another #EdFringe annual tradition for me is to go and see whatever show Box Tale Soup bring. This year it's the never-more-relevant 1984 and they've done a great job as always. You might even say the show is double plus good, DO YOU SEE WHAT I DID THERE
11.08.2025 12:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And continuing delving into the Scottish shorts from the 90s ECA/Napier era. As a worshipper of Ray Bradbury there's obviously no way I can ignore another adaptation of one of his stories, even if it does feel a little odd seeing it taking place in Scotland.

Next up in my latest Scottish viewing session, a film that I can only assume will be the most historically accurate and deadly serious portrayal of this Edinburgh tale.

Trawling through my Scottish-related film bookmarks again. Now watching Bernard Rudden's The Chalk Mark (1989), which is currently free on the BFI Player.

Just discovered there's finally a trailer. I am assuming this is going to be brilliant.

Two men and a woman stand by an old stone wall looking at something offscreen
Very niche question... I'm watching a 1980 documentary short from the NFB, The Fiddlers of James Bay, in which a couple of Cree fiddlers from Canada visit Orkney, and there's a brief scene of them looking at some geese with an unnamed woman. Is that Margaret Tait?

You can keep your Oasis pish, here's where the real musical fun is happening late on a Saturday night.
09.08.2025 20:48 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just been sitting here watching some old Films of Scotland shorts and just as I was about to finish up and go to bed I just saw that the great Laurence Henson died a few days ago. Time to squeeze in one more before bed then. RIP.

And rounded off my Fringe day today with more music. A trip down to Leith for Blue Rose Code with tonight's guest Beth Malcolm. Stellar stuff all round.
08.08.2025 22:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Enjoyed Devil's Point at #EdFringe this afternoon, a nice wee slice of Scottish folk horror (with a few laughts too), from Cutty Sark Theatre whose work I have enjoyed previously. Worth a punt if you want something for that late afternoon slot.
08.08.2025 22:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thought it was a sign of modern Edinburgh that there's now a posh looking restaurant where there used to be some public toilets, but that's now been trumped by the fact that the brothel round the corner from where I used to work now appears to be some kind of Airbnb/serviced apartments.
08.08.2025 17:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Given the crazy prices folks were paying for Oasis tickets, it's pretty mad how many of them I've seen already today who clearly won't be making it to the gig, or won't remember it if they do. Condolences to anyone living near Murrayfield.
08.08.2025 16:44 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1Decent start to my #EdFringe day today with an Irish-themed theatre double bill of Our Brothers in Cloth (Assembly George Square) and Consumed (at Traverse). Both very good.
08.08.2025 15:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just read on here that it's International Cat Day apparently, so why not watch the 1977 masterpiece The Uncanny.
08.08.2025 10:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Every time you see a Labour MP heading to the toilet, make sure to intercept them and demand documentary proof that their Supreme Court-undefined "biological sex" matches the socially constructed gender signifiers in the icon on the toilet sign, and then simply refuse to accept any proof they give

06.08.2025 13:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Off to a show about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Going to assume this is a feel good story about the triumph of business and the American dream where nothing bad happens, so no need for me to do any further googling on the subject.
