The Commission proposal for the next long-term EU budget aka MFF just dropped. Its overall volume increases very moderately, but the proposal contains sweeping changes to the way the EU spends money and to budget's priorities.

Here is my first quick take:

At its core is a €700 billion pledge to import U.S. fossil fuels and nuclear energy over the next three years - fundamentally incompatible with the EU’s 2030 climate targets.

Exxon spending tens of thousands of euro per week to sponsor Politico's 'sustainability' and the widely read (free) 'playbook' newsletters, pushing for more focus on plastic *recycling* instead of reducing plastic production

For oil & gas companies, plastic is a way to keep drilling and polluting

πŸ“ˆ What stands in the way of more renewable energy?

🀫 Spoiler: It’s not nature protection laws.

The real barriers? Staff shortages, rushed public engagement, and weak grid connections.

The EU's dirty hydrogen push in South Africa - revealed EU politicians are presenting green hydrogen as a win-win fuel, claiming it will lead to low-carbon industrialisation in the Global South while decarbonising economies in Europe.Β The reality on the gr...

How is the EU's new Clean Trade and Investment Partnership #CTIP is helping Europe get control of South Africa's (not-so-green) hydrogen?

Introducing serious filters in wood stoves is a win-win-win measure:
🎯It improves indoor and outdoor air quality, improving comfort and saving lives.
🎯It cuts on climate emissions, as these local emissions are ALSO serious climate pollutants
🎯It cuts on societal health costs

What saddens me the most, in this latest #Gaza tragedy, is that if and when food relief will be allowed to enter, chances are that we will witness scenes of looting and assault, 'cause when we starve, we'd do anything to survive. And there's no order or police anymore there.

this study contributes to a positive-thinking narrative around the uptake of clean, renewable heating in Europe, thanks to the funds of the Social Climate Fund and the Emission Trading System 2.

The power of learning and innovation:

As batteries get cheaper, more people buy them and as more people buy them the cheaper batteries become.

Since 2010, battery costs have fallen by more than 90% - offering big opportunities to cut emissions in road transport & electricity.

πŸ—žοΈ This week’s Meta just dropped!

75 years after the EU’s coal & steel roots, leaders face a green crossroads. MEPs shut down a fake NGO scandal, but flopped on wolves + water. Agri talks missed key food links, as Denmark eyes protein gains in 2025.

Today, @ec.europa.eu unveiled its roadmap to phasing out Russian energy imports by 2027. 3 years into full-scale war, the EU still imports €100M+ in Russian fossil fuels every week and loopholes are allowing them to export indirectly too.

We need renewables - not more fossil ties. #EnergySecurity
