07.12.2025 15:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think he's neglected because his imperialism is unacceptable today. I think he had a touch of genius
A Snider squibbed in the jungle
Somebody laughed and fled,
And the men of the First Shikaris
Picked up their Subaltern dead,
With a big blue mark in his forehead
And the back blown out of his head
An interesting thought experiment to think what would have happened if he'd been in charge of 2nd Army in Normandy
06.12.2025 17:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No no, this will be *totally* different.
Every few years we'll vote by constituencies for who will represent us in the citizens assembly. There will also be a second assembly not directly elected.
Then the King as Head of State will rubber-stamp the laws the assembly passes!
The group said it carried out the stunt to demand the UK government establishes a permanent citizen's assembly - a "House of the People" - with the power to "tax extreme wealth and fix Britain".
Maybe said assembly could sit somewhere like the Palace of Westminster?
"Let me be quite honest about it; I was idle, careless about my turnoutβin army parlance, scruffyβand, due to the fact that I am inclined to roll when I walk, very unsmart on parade"
I think I would have got along well with Jorrocks π
Thanks! π
05.12.2025 20:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@lmbd1418.bsky.social Horsey Great War question - Do you know how many horses a BEF cavalry Division would have as compared to an infantry Division please?
I'm trying to figure out by 1918, what proportion of the 4 legged burden was cavalry related, I know it was very small...

03.12.2025 20:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well we could just have responsible government that invests in public services (I know this a radical idea) thereby saving money and making everything better in the long run, but that's not what the tit-starer is advocating though, is it?

He hasn't evolved since the Corbyn days and has no concept of leadership

01.12.2025 18:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thing is they've set the bar *incredibly low* for salary sacrifice. Β£2k is 5% of the median salary and its a frankly pathetic amount to be saving for retirement.
Do people actually need to be discouraged from saving for their retirement and therefore being a burden on the state in their old age?
As someone who produces said evidence, this is a tad disheartening π₯Ή

This happened regularly under the last government. The new lot are still doing it.
