Saw this on my timeline and I think it encapsulates the divide pretty well. There are, with shades of gray between, broadly two groups, one which has no floor for conduct, one which has a floor that recognizes no exigency , and there’s a conflict between the two which could use bridging.

I would say the hunter hunts because the reward (nourishment, money, satisfaction, status, etc) weighs heavily enough to justify the effort in their personal calculus.

Ditto for DC statehood. Like it’s nice to pretend power is a popularity contest but unless you address the structural R+4 or 5 environment it’s handicapped into being a question of whether you can stop republicans. I’d be offering every city larger than Wyoming statehood, frankly.
