Keith David as Childs and Kurt Russell as MacReady in John Carpenterโs The Thing 1982
My favourite theory is that at the end when MacReady offers Childs a drink from a whiskey bottle, is that it was actually gasoline from an unused Molotov cocktail and that lets Mac know that Childs is the Thing when he doesnโt react to the taste.
25.10.2025 05:18 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Drew Struzanโs poster for John Carpenterโs The Thing (1980).
31 movies in October #10. John Carpenterโs The Thing (1982). What got me to rewatch it was Drew Struzanโs recent passing. Itโs amazing that he captured the essence of the movie without going literal by showing the alien (and spoiling the reveal of the practical effects). Best movie poster ever.

Shelley Duvall is an amazing actress and I think she could have given an equally quality performance without the psychological torment. She deserved so much more respect than she got it life.
25.10.2025 04:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Cover of Kubrickโs The Shining (1980)
31 movies in October #9. Kubrickโs The Shining (1980). Firstly, the book will always be better. But Kubrick is a master of imagery and the movie is its own iconic masterpiece. His treatment of Duvall will always be a blight on the movies reputation for me though.
25.10.2025 04:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A shot from Bram Stokerโs Dracula (1992), Dracula is wearing a long red dressing gown that drags behind him dramatically as he leads Johnathan Harker across a room.
A shot from Bram Stokerโs Dracula (1992), Lucy after she awakens a a vampyre and confronts her past suitors. She is wearing an opulent white wedding dress that she had been buried in.
The real stars of the film are Eiko Ishiokaโs costumes. Draculaโs long red dressing gown is so strong, it makes Oldmanโs performance exude power, even as heโs portraying an old man. And Lucyโs wedding dress allows Frost to juxtapose her performances as a sickly human versus a frightening Vampyre.
15.10.2025 03:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The movie poster for Bran Stokerโs Dracula (1992)
31 movies in the month of October #8, Bram Stokerโs Dracula (1992). Itโs a visually stunning film and the vibes are amazing. The acting overall is definitely a bit uneven. Winona Ryderโs performance is better than people give her credit for. Even if her accent is a bit off, the passion is there.

The city from Cannon Fodder that is obsessed with fighting an unnamed/unseen enemy.
The other 2 stories are a completely different tone but haunting in their own ways. Stink Bug follows a man who is oblivious to the destruction that he is causing. And Cannon Fodder explores the horror of glorifying endless war and propaganda/indoctrination of youth.

Watching 31 movies in the month of October #7, Memories (1995). I want to focus on Magnetic Rose. I love a sci-fi ghost story about a lonely ghost in space thatโs looking for someone to connect to. This is an hauntingly romantic story about whether itโs better to live in denial or accept the truth.

Yoshitaka Amanoโs art of Celes Chere from Final Fantasy.
Iโve always loved Yoshitaka Amanoโs character designs for Vampire Hunter D. I first encountered his artwork in the booklet for Final Fantasy III (actually vi) for my SNES. It was one of 3 games my family actually owned and I played it religiously and his art gave so much emotion to the characters.
08.10.2025 03:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The movie poster for Vampire Hunter D (1985)
Watching a movie a day for October day 6. Vampire Hunter D (1985). I honestly donโt remember where I first saw this film, but it was one of my first experiences with actual anime. It was also the first time encountering a post apocalyptic world that was a mix of sci-fi and fantasy.
08.10.2025 02:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0My favourite monologue in any film is Debbie explaining herself to the Addams, and instead of hate and anger she finds sympathy. They understand her and would have forgiven her past murders and welcomed her into the family. She could have found loveโฆ and jewelry.
06.10.2025 01:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The movie poster for Addams Family Values (1993)
Day 5 of watching a movie a day for October, Addams Family Values (1993). I missed a day so I watched my favourite double feature. Joan Cusackโs Debbie is an amazing contrast to Morticia. Both are strong women. The moral of the story is: you can enslave your husband, but do it for love, not money.
06.10.2025 01:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Anjelica Huston as Morticia talking to Wednesdayโs teacher. Text added to image reads: Wednesdayโs great-aunt Calpurnia. She was burned as a witch in 1706. They say she danced naked in the town square and enslaved a minister. But donโt worry. Weโve told Wednesday, college first.
She really highlighted the fact that though the Addams Family is weird they are still still a family and she shows genuine concern for other people, like when she finds another student in Wednesdayโs class has chosen a reporter as their hero, โHave you talked to her parents?โ

Day 4 of watching a movie a day for the month of October, The Addams Family (1991). The highlight of the 90โs movies for me is Anjelica Huston as Morticia. Her acting in a corset so tight she couldnโt sit down and still giving a performance that is both aloof and intensely passionate is amazing.
06.10.2025 00:49 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Jodi foster in an elevator surrounded by men who are much taller than her.
I also love the visual story telling they use by only casting actors over six feet in every scene Clarice is in.

Day 3 of watching a movie a day for the month of October, The Silence of the Lambs (1991). God, I love the idea of an antagonist that communicates in puzzles and Anagrams. The idea that heโs using the Socratic method to mentor Clarice about serial killers makes for such an interesting relationship.

Clare Higgins in the movie Hellraiser. She is looking sideways at herself in the mirror with smudged lipstick after having seduced and killed a man.
But, letโs be honest. Clare Higginsโ performance carried this movie. Without her incredible skill and nuance as an actor, the movie wouldnโt have been nearly as enjoyable.

Day 2 of watching a horror movie a day for October, Hellraiser (1987). Itโs been a while since Iโve watched it, and I always forget how visually impressive it is. Barkerโs background as an artist allows him to create such impressive tableaux that fit the raw passion of the story.

Day 1 of watching a horror movie a day for October, Alien (1979). Obviously the design and the atmosphere are impeccable, but what I really appreciate is the economy of exposition to establish the corporate world that the characters exist and the politics and relationships of the crew.

Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, and a black creature with sharp teeth wearing a bulbous eye earring. There's a large purple creature with many yellow eyes and an open mouth, with a little green creature popping her head out. All the creatures are sitting on green fur and there's a galaxy print fabric in the background.
Hi peeps! I'd love one more patron before the month ends. At the stroke of 12, I turn back into a jack-o'-lantern.
As a patron, you'll support my fabric art, and you'll receive positive affirmations from Felmer, etiquette advice from Mothman, and other fun posts.
