My quote of the day

Be true to yourself. Make each day a masterpiece. Help others. Drink deeply from good books. Make friendship a fine art. Build a shelter against a rainy day.

Sounded intriguing until I saw there is apparently an unspecified age cut off (i.e. early career scientist). Are older researchers considered if they apply?

Russell Vought has unilaterally decided today that he simply wonโ€™t allow anyone outside of NIH to receive research funding.

$15 billion in NIH funding is now locked down. If not reversed, it will also take down many Universities in the United States.

Forget new cancer treatments or vaccines.

Mitochondria can sense bacteria and trigger your immune system to trap them โ€“ revealing new ways to treat infections and autoimmunity Not only do mitochondria serve as the engine of the cell โ€“ they also act as watchtowers for the immune system.

New article by Dr. Andrew Monteith reveals mitochondria in immune cells can sense bacteria and trigger โ€œimmune trapsโ€ (NETs). This discovery links metabolism & immunity, important for ME/CFS research.

On days like this I find it so hard to reconcile our human actions with the almost impossible odds that we exist at all. I wish we treasured and valued each other. I wish we realized thereโ€™s more than enough for everyone. That we belong to each other, we need each other. That we are all we have.
