Interesting that it's not "registered Democrats" or "likely Democrats and undecided". It certainly looks like they used polling methods and statistics to manufacture a narrative because they think their audience is stupid.

The reason I keep beating the drum about social media cooking the brains of media people is because that's exactly what's happening.

However reasonable Demsas appears, however right she is that "thoughtless moderation" is bad, she's talking about social media vibes, not politics.

Some of this may be down to an unwillingness to even entertain a debate, in an unsuccessful effort to maintain a unified front. Progressive activists and organizations have often been confrontational when challenged with dissenting views, leading critics to claim that these tactics left little room for actual debate. The net result, however, is the worst-case scenario for progressives and trans individuals alike, as a previously sympathetic public’s support of trans rights has completely unraveled over the last decade.

But also: The reason that so many people were annoyed by Jain's original piece was analysis like this.

This is, again, the hand-wavy repetition of the airy argument that some nebulous group of progressives "shut down debate." We were too mean, and now people are mad.

This is nonsense.

Demsas seems to repeat Jain's suggestion that Dems focus on protecting trans people from housing/workplace discrimination, because that remains a popular position.

Once again, I contend that strategic retreat from *any* issue invites further losses.
