"Survey of registered voters."

Interesting that it's not "registered Democrats" or "likely Democrats and undecided". It certainly looks like they used polling methods and statistics to manufacture a narrative because they think their audience is stupid.

The reason I keep beating the drum about social media cooking the brains of media people is because that's exactly what's happening.

However reasonable Demsas appears, however right she is that "thoughtless moderation" is bad, she's talking about social media vibes, not politics.

Some of this may be down to an unwillingness to even entertain a debate, in an unsuccessful effort to maintain a unified front. Progressive activists and organizations have often been confrontational when challenged with dissenting views, leading critics to claim that these tactics left little room for actual debate. The net result, however, is the worst-case scenario for progressives and trans individuals alike, as a previously sympathetic public’s support of trans rights has completely unraveled over the last decade.

But also: The reason that so many people were annoyed by Jain's original piece was analysis like this.

This is, again, the hand-wavy repetition of the airy argument that some nebulous group of progressives "shut down debate." We were too mean, and now people are mad.

This is nonsense.

Demsas seems to repeat Jain's suggestion that Dems focus on protecting trans people from housing/workplace discrimination, because that remains a popular position.

Once again, I contend that strategic retreat from *any* issue invites further losses.

The Blogs: The Tucker Carlson effect Almost half of young Republicans surveyed see Jews as a threat to the American way of life. That’s not the biggest problem facing pro-Israel candidates

“Almost half of young Republicans surveyed see Jews as a threat to the American way of life.”

Yep, antisemitism is totally a both-sides issue. Right? Right??

You know I love Mamdani. But this is a Schumer post. Please announce some kind of sanction against NYU Langone and/or some specific help for trans kids. Concern is not enough.

You cannot ethically do this @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social — not even after 7 days, not even with Dept of Homeless Services leading instead of the NYPD. There is no ethical way to harass and steal from people who have been so failed by society. The only ethical thing you can do is to give them a home.

The news cycle around AOC’s “gaffe” is, in my humble opinion, a clear manufacturing of a “gaffe” where there was none. But it’s indicative of the belief undergirding a lot of MSM that if one “side” is behaving badly, the other “side” must be positioned as doing something wrong, too, for “fairness”

In a free democracy, the government does not get to suppress political beliefs with a blacklist.

Any politician who supports laws that punish free speech cannot be trusted to protect yours.

So we can do what? Oversee the ethnic cleansing of America?

ICE was part of a racist christofascist overreaction to 9/11, meant to dehumanized the already marginalized, to manufacture consent for imperialism.

ICE cannot be reformed.

ICE. Must. Be. Abolished.

I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office.

ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for.

We need immediate oversight of this entire operation.

The Atlantic is fishing around to write a story about the reaction to the Argument poll. You can be sure that the framing will be "unreasonable trans activists can't handle harsh truths of polling and try to shut down debate which is why they lost public opinion in the first place."

Our political system provides the elite with immunity. It has to change.

We need to talk about the right’s new voter suppression target: Women The SAVE Act would make it harder for married women in particular to vote, and that is just one part of the MAGA right's misogynist project.

It is essential to take the threat to women’s voting rights posed by the SAVE Act within the wider context of coercive and misogynistic views on the right.

I wrote about it for @liberalcurrents.com

what I want people to feel, when they look at South Korea and the UK and Brazil holding elites accountable, is that it's possible here too. Elect true leaders this year and in 28, empowered - but also driven by us, the people - to hold the criminals accountable for their crimes. It's possible.

The Unregulated AI Experiment on America’s Children - The American Prospect Some states have crafted consumer protection laws aimed at shielding kids from AI chatbots despite opposition from Big Tech.

AI chatbots are massively popular among teenagers, including for mental health advice and emotional support. Tragedy has ensued. Logan Chapman writes about these dangers and the halting efforts by state and federal regulators to provide safeguards.

At a certain point, why bother? Multiple admins, bogus lawsuits, & a corrupt judiciary have already robbed me of years of PSLF progress (all because I was forced onto SAVE, a plan I never signed up for and never thought went far enough).

I wouldn't have bothered getting a PhD without REPAYE & PSLF.

We need tuition-free college.

And we need quality union jobs with good pay and benefits that don't require a college degree.

And we need a free, universal health care system that isn't tied to you having a job to get quality care in the first place.

This government has done everything it can to demonise the Palestine movement. It has failed.

History will be kind to those who tried to stop the genocide. It will condemn those who aided and abetted it.

The Trump regime deported a 2-month-old baby and his family after the infant was hospitalized following their detention at the Dilley family detention center.

Rep. Joaquin Castro says the family was shipped off with only the money in their commissary — $190.

The cruelty is endless.
