For those of us living in Colorado in the early 1980s, we remember a time when forecasts were not worth much - not accurate by any measure. There ere fortunately few extreme weather events. Going back to inaccurate forecasts combined with extreme weather is a recipe for disaster.

It took months of hard work to get the Lafayette CO ambulance to bill my insurance after demanding over $1K saying my insurance was billed (which was not true). The entire amount was covered by insurance.
